Surprised? Adulterer Mark Sanford to Join Fox News

Former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford is joining Fox News as a contributor, the Huffington Post has confirmed.

The New York Times was the first to report the news that Sanford —who became notorious for his affair with an Argentinean woman — would become just the latest ex-politician to join Fox News. (He also becomes at least the second governor with a sex scandal to gain a position on cable news within the last year, following Eliot Spitzer's CNN experiment.)

Sanford was considered to be one of the up-and-coming figures within the Republican Party before his sudden bizarre disappearance in 2009. The press was infamously told that Sanford was "hiking the Appalachian trail." However, he was actually in Argentina, visiting his then-mistress, Maria Belen Chapur. After a week in which he was AWOL, Sanford suddenly turned up again. In a bizarre, highly emotional press conference, he admitted to his affair.

Sanford did not step down, choosing to serve out his term. His wife, Jenny, filed for divorce.

    • Holy Crap, talk about a kid in a candy store. Sanford should have a field day with all those "Talking Breasts" Fox hires as eye candy and then has the gall to call "reporters".

We need a pool on "how long before Sanford is involved with either a scandal involving an intern or an affair involving a married woman."

The irony being he's actually pretty unattractive and as phony as Canadian money. What the F--K do those women see in him? I suppose a lot of them have very low self esteem and standards.

They have my deepest sympathies if he is the best they can do for themselves.

This site has been dumbed-down & self trivializing for so long now.....

Kinda makes me think you're (almost) all wealthy, disconnected, and apathetic towards more serious issues...

    • Well he is not the brightest bulb, but I did have respect for him owning up and expressing his love for his new, hot, Argentinean sex kitten.

I am not as hard on candidates with sex scandals as most people because I just don't think it is that big a deal. Men (and some women, for that matter) that go into politics have massive egos and sexual appetites to go with it. It is like telling a rattle snake he is not allowed to shake his rattle or bite. It is just not going to happen. I am pretty sure they all do it. We just hear about the poor bastards that get caught.

Now, as far as Mark Sanford being a hypocritical Republican, a thoughtless father, a shitty husband and the following crap:

Abused his office for his personal benefit and the benefit of his friends
Violated campaign finance laws by failing to report in-kind contributions and
improperly converting campaign funds for personal use
Subordinated his responsibilities to his pursuit of an extramarital affair
Endangered his state’s economy by threatening to refuse stimulus funds

      He sucks.

The one thing I did like was:

In dissent with the Republican Party of South Carolina, Sanford, an Episcopalian, opposed the faith-based license plates his state offers, marketed largely to the state's conservative evangelical citizens. After allowing the law to pass without his signature, he wrote "It is my personal view that the largest proclamation of one's faith ought to be in how one lives his life."

      Because of the hysterical irony.
