Romney Flips To Denial: ‘We Don’t Know What’s Causing Climate Change’

“My view is that we don’t know what’s causing climate change on this planet. And the idea of spending trillions and trillions of dollars to try to reduce CO2 emissions is not the right course for us.”
“I think the EPA, acting in concert with the president, really doesn’t like oil, gas, coal, and nuclear,” Romney said in response to another question. “I really do believe that the EPA wants to get its hands on all of energy and be able to crush it to cause prices to go through the roof.” To applause, he concluded that “the EPA should not be regulating carbon dioxide.”
In June, Romney told a New Hampshire audience that he believed in man-made global warming, and that reducing greenhouse pollution is “important“:
“I don’t speak for the scientific community, of course, but I believe the world’s getting warmer. I can’t prove that, but I believe based on what I read that the world is getting warmer. And number two, I believe that humans contribute to that. I don’t know how much our contribution is to that, because I know that there have been periods of greater heat and warmth in the past but I believe we contribute to that. And so I think it’s important for us to reduce our emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases that may well be significant contributors to the climate change and the global warming that you’re seeing.”
As governor of Massachusetts, Romney presided over plans to regulate carbon dioxide as a “pollutant,” and was advised by Dr. John Holdren, now President Obama’s scientific adviser.

Wrong, Mr Romney. We *do* know what's causing climate change. What we're not sure about is, what's causing Mitt Romney.

I can only hope the general public sees this pandering clown for what he is. It's just plain pathetic.

This is why politics being injected into this is bs. Romney, BP, Koch Industries... they all KNOW climate change/biodistress is real and that human forcings are pushing the envelope on our ability to sustain this planet for our survival. They just don't care over their own ambitions and that makes them criminals in my book.

At least he admits there's climate change and it is warming. For now. Come winter he'll probably say it's getting colder.

Well, we're certainly beginning to know what you do believe in Mr. Romney.
Even though 99% of the scientific community overwhelmingly agrees that global warming is very real ... you're just not sure. Yet you believe in magic underwear and delusional adults that started your church based on a lost child in the forest.
Yea... you're qualified to be President... of wingnuttia!

What an asshole! Typical flip-flopper. Let's drill and do more fracking for energy. This country never learns. Meanwhile, as the ice caps melt and the flood waters rise.....

I really don't like the voting system here at Current.
Voting up or down on a story is fine. But voting comments down is a bad idea.
It's a form of humiliation.
We should only have the power to vote commentors up.
Like in an election you can't vote a candidate down.
You can only vote FOR someone.
I admit I vote myself up as often as I have the chance (another flaw in Current's voting system).
But I nonetheless love this site! - 7 months ago

Well we could always share that with the Staff... I think it's pretty Chicken Shit to down a comment and run away without stating why you downed the comment... If this site is for talking about the issues, we all come from a different perspective of them...I would like to see the voting on comments done away with... It would certainly open the dialogue of talk much more than it is now...
I am not sure about the voting up or down of the commentor as a Whole... That's almost like saying, Don't talk to that Fella, look how many others find him to be such an Ass!!! And why??? Because someone else disagreed??? I only up a comment of mine when I post an article so folks can see it on the recent comments below... That helps to let others see what's going on... I never up my comments from there on... I think at this time if a comment I made was upped that someone agreed, I also think that if a comment I made was downed that maybe I need to take a different look of the subject at hand, or maybe someone just don't like me or what I have to share... It is or can be hard to find the midway of what works for everyone... I too dig Current... =)

Beautifully said.
I get a certain satisfaction in voting a poster out of the minus if I like, though not necessarily agree, with what they say.
Take Debra_ for example. The woman cracks me up!
I also have to admit that I take pleasure in being the one to vote a comment to 10 up (green) or 10 down (red).

Sorry if I seem somewhat obsessed with this subject.
I just feel we are at the tipping point of no return and unless something is immediately done to address this energy emergency it will be too late (if it's not already too late to avoid the death of billions in the near future).
Ice caps, tundra and glaciers are melting 100 years earlier than climate models had projected. Turns out scientists were not figuring in positive feedbacks within the ecosystems.
We are witnessing climate meltdown.
What are all the jobs and money in the world worth if we run out of food and Earth becomes inhabitable?
We are not talking about our great grandchildren anymore.

I told my son just a week ago that with the way the climate was going and the way Arctic icemelt was changing wind patterns and affecting temperatures that we could get snow before Halloween. He laughed... today we are being hit with a winter storm. And I agree, we are definitely at a tipping point with our atmosphere and yet these buffoons continue to play politics.

What is dreadful about this freak snowstorm is that we still haven't had our first frost here in SW PA (a month late) and most of the leaves are still on the trees.
I awoke this morning to my birch and dogwood branches bending to the ground with less than an inch of snow. I can only imagine the devastation to forests across the Northeast where they had a lot more snow.
