Tennessee Fire: Mayor McGuire is a Liar

coolplanet
WPSD Local 6 news reported today that Mayor Benny McGuire said it would require a 50% increase in Obion County property taxes (900 households) to provide fire service.

The $75 annual rural fire fee amounts to $67,500. Of the 900 households, 700 pay the annual fee which comes to $52,500. So that‘s only $15,000 short of the annual budget.

$15,000 divided by 900 households is a $16 rise in annual property taxes.

Unless residents of Obion County only pay $32 in property taxes per year this is a bold faced lie!

But the real question is: Why is this a voluntary fee and not an involuntary tax, “like car insurance” as the mayor blusters?

Those hillbillies sure think different.
