Former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee on Friday said that President Barack Obama had turned evangelicals into Catholics by requiring private health insurance plans to cover contraception for women.
Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, Huckabee gave “a great big thank you to President Obama.”
“You have done more than any person in the entire GOP field, any candidate has done to bring this party to unity and energize this party as a result of your attack on religious liberty and the attack on the personhood of every human being in America,” the former Arkansas governor declared.
“The fact that Catholic hospitals– and not just Catholic hospitals, but any hospital, any organization — would be required to provide not just contraceptive services, but Plan B abortion pills and other services that are outside the conscience of people of faith is, in fact, a direct violation of the First Amendment,” Huckabee, who is an ordained Southern Baptist minister, insisted.
“I remember very vividly when John F. Kennedy said that we are all Berliners. Well, in many ways, thanks to President Obama, we are all Catholics now.”
He added: “Growing up a Baptist in the South, I never thought I’d see the day when I would stand in front of several thousand people and say, ‘We’re all Catholic!’ Praise the Lord, pass the offering plate. It’s time to get serious.”
Reports on Friday said the Obama administration would move to accommodate Catholics in a way that would make still contraception available to all women.

I am confused. The religious right claims that there is no separation of church and state when Atheists want to keep religion out of schools and off of government property but now they claim there is separation of church and state.
It seems as though this would be a textbook example of cognitive dissonance.

LOL! When yer right...yer right, my friend. These same MEN would like to repeal Women's Rights, sending thousands of women back to the kitchen table abortionists, imposing THEIR religious beliefs on US. Like Gloria Steinham said, "If MEN had every other baby, abortion would be a sacrament."
Which reminds me of another quote---from Malvina Reynolds (who wrote many of the great protest songs of the 70's). In one song she says,
"A child, before it's born, is sacred, but if one of them should die in the streets of Calcutta, no one would cry but his mom. And aint that just like a woman?"These same Republicans who so cherish the life of an embryo, dont want to give his mom foodstamps to feed it with, once it's born. "Hypocasy" is a VERY nice word for that.

Thoughts on the Catholic Church
The recent TV ad campaign the CC is running says, "Come back to the Church!" No wonder--the membership has dwindled considerably over the last few decades. People are just too well-educated, these days, to fall for the archaic dogma. Nothing has done MORE to get women to leave the church in droves than their outworn beliefs on birth control, with many a woman saying, "When the Pope sends me a monthly check to pay for all the kids he wants me to have....THEN I wont use birth control...."
Between now and then, Catholic women will continue to use birth control and will continue to leave the Church.
Maybe it's time for the CC to step out of the 12th century and join the rest of us here in the 21st. - 4 months ago

Right. The "strength and beauty" of the CC is what, exactly? The folks who brought you the Inquisition, the burning of a million women as "witches"? Is that the "beauty" part or the "strength" part? The same folks who "edited" the gospels, deciding which would be included in the Bible and which would be left out? The same folks who decided it would serve their purposes better to remove any reference to JC's marital status and reduced his wife, a high-born educated woman who could read and write (rare, in those days) to a hooker? Since reading non-Catholic material is discouraged, you may not know that then as well as now, NO Jew could be a Rabbi without being married.- The same folks who took a vote five hundred years AFTER JC's death to decide whether he was the "son of God" or a mortal man? At that same time, Islam had appeared and the ONE thing that guaranteed a "Our Guy is better than YOUR guy" was to make JC the LITERAL "son of God", while all the Muslims could call their guy was "a Prophet". This "one-up-manship" set the future and was political, not spiritual in nature... Look how well that worked out--Christians and Muslims have been killing each other in the name of God for 1500 years now as a result.
The Holy Roman Church aquired their strength AND their power by getting the inside track on EVERYBODY's business, from the King right down to the the lowliest peasant thru the clever means of the Confessional. He who knows everybody's dirty little secrets has ALL the power. And the most clever hustle of all--all you have to do to be OK with God is CONFESS your sins-- please.
That the Church has done it's bit for the poor is the LEAST they could do, in view of the fact they have created poverty for millions of people by their stand on birth control, their opposition to science and stubborn refusal to change with a changing world.
The Catholic Church is slowly dying and not a minute too soon. The history of the Church is long, corrupt and bloody.I GET the "strength" part, LOL. Yeppers....strong enough to control the thinking of millions for centuries is no small accomplishment. But....where's the "beauty"?

Regress is backward and to fantacise returning to some past "Good Ole Days" is exactly that---a fantasy. Look around you. This is a time of great and tremendous social change, not only in America, but globally. Look at the number of nations who have stood up, en masse this past year to say, "We've had enough and wont take this crap any longer.". Look right here in the USA at the Occupy Wall Street movement. There is a GLOBAL revolution going on against the "old days" and the old regimes. Nobody but the Republicans cling to the "old days" and they fear this Change. In the words of Bob Dylan, "Please get out of the New World if you cant lend a hand....for the Times, they are a'changin'"

If we do not have solid principles - Leftists have the principles of "we care" - we have nothing. And these principles must be enduring. Conservatives have them. And we are prepared to enter the global marketplace and not clamor for a REGRESSION into socialism. Left-wingers want socialism, and it is a regression to a brutal and primitive past.

"Yes, I posted that song. It is you Left-wingers who refuse to see. There is a proliferation of Conservative think tanks, FOX has broken records, and talk radio is listened to by tens of millions every day. The Tea Party has changed the composition of the House"
1. Your over use of "left winger" is an obvious ploy to redirect attention, probably because you have no conception of the ideas they discuss.
2. Lots of conservative think tanks, wanna know why? Because they are loosing this battle for control and oppression and need every hand on deck to find a way around this.
3. Fox has broken records, many of those for most falsified or rhetorical commentaries.
4. Talk radio is listened to by millions, but not all talk radio is GOP controled or oriented. Hell, "Coast to Coast" has several millions listeners, but you don't here us screaming ghosts have taken my alien to the next dimension for some universal spirit! Oh you poor thing! How old are you? Im 62. I was THERE. I KNOW my Dylan. The song is directed to all the Mr.Jones out there who believe as YOU do. At the time it was written, the HIPPY movement had taken over America. The "straights" (The Mr. Joneses, like you) were confused, disoriented and terrified by us. Dylan was not only "one of us", he was one of our LEADERS in radical thought, a REBEL. He is speaking to YOU when he says, "Something's happening here and you dont know what it is...."

Correctomundo! Im old enough to remember quite well those TV shows. "Father Knows Best", "Make Room for Daddy", " "Leave it to Beaver" and so on. They all had smart, business-men fathers and stay-at-home moms who always wore their pearls while mopping the kitchen. The women always deferred to their husbands "greater wisdom" , "Whatever you say, dear...."
It is kinda interesting that more recent sitcoms generally show a smart woman running things despite her moronic husband's stupid mishaps. ("Tool Time", "Bewitched" and so on. Nowadays, there seems to be equality, with TV men being only SLIGHTLY more ditzy than the women. I guess that's progress."Roseanne" was my personal fave--a working class couple who shared the load and managed to have a functional family despite hardships."All In the Family", of course, went ALL the way Out There, LOL poking fun at ALL the Archie Bunker Republicans trying desperately to hold on to their "Good Old Days" despite the changing times.

It's not about morals or religion, it's about controling a womans choice about what she wants to do about her sex and health. What would they do if the same effort went into controling their reproductive organs? I wonder how many of them use their health plan to provide them with penis pills? Catholics want the insurance company's money but they don't want the strings attached per the insurance plans. If you don't want to perform abortions per insurance policy's request then don't take an insurance company's money and treat all your patients for free. Simple as that. If you do want insurance company money and the government says (because Republicans asked for it) that you can see any doctor you want on any insurance plan, well that doctor has to treat you. And if your insurance plan used to cover abortions, and some did, you still gotta offer it.
REPUBLICANS were the ones pushing the idea of "I WON'T GET TO KEEP MY INSURANCE PLAN" and "I WON'T GET TO CHOOSE MY DOCTOR UNDER OBAMACARE!" They said that they wanted that in any bill. (solely because they wanted to keep their Cadillac insurance doctors)
And NOW it's come back to bite them in the ass BECAUSE some original healthcare plans BEFORE Obamacare covered abortions if you remember and under Obamacare the parts THEY (Republicans) stipulated about not getting to choose their doctor are now law. They can see any doctor and get the same abortions per their original healthcare plan that said they could BEFORE Obamacare. They were so intent on not losing any benefits from original insurance plans. Congrats Republicans you fucked YOURSELVES. You can see any doctor you want and keep getting the insurance covered abortions per your insurance plan now at any hospital. Before you would have been limited to seeing specific doctors on a certain plan covering abortions at specific facilities, now thanks to Republicans it's free range. And if you say "I want an abortion and I want MY doctor to do it. Oh and by the way my insurance covered it before Obamacare and still does now." Guess who has to do it, the doctor you want to. No matter how Catholic his ass is.
Republicans did this to themselves and now they're whining. Boo. Fucking. Hoo.

If we're a nation of people who can freely practice our religions as he says why can't one take the sacrament LSD as part of their faith? Cus we don't have freedom of religion in this country so shut the fuck up and get used to it. Catholics have it better than any of the other religions in this country as is. Some of us still have to practice our faith in secret for fear of persecution.
Catholics problem is that they want freedom of religion to apply to them more than anyone else.

Mushrooms, marijuana, peyote, are just a few of Nature's holy sacraments. The Magical and Healing herbs have been cast aside in favor of pharmaceuticals. Good grief. Women LIKE Me were burned at the stake for four hundred years by the fucking Catholics even tho MY religion pre-dates Christianity by 10,000 years. Where is MY religious freedom? Im a gifted Tarot reader, but Im afraid to practice since I moved to a small southern town smack in the middle of the Baptist Bible Belt. I literally fear the locals might burn a cross in my yard if they thought Im a "witch"....let alone grow a few MJ plants on my deck.
You're absolutely right--nobody has been more "blessed" by our government than the Catholic Church. If you happen to be a Pagan, a Rastafarian or a practicioner of Vo-Dan, Macumba or Santeria and need to kill a goat or a chicken....or smoke some herb...well, not so "blessed". In fact, you may get to spend the night in jail.
Now, understand that I am of IRISH descent, not African. So, sacrificing chickens or goats is not part of my practice. However, if I were of African descent and wanted to, the Law would frown upon my choice, calling it "barberic". I find that funny in view of the Christian sacrament, in which they are told that the wine IS the blood of Christ as the wafer IS the body. Eating bodies and drinking blood is NOT "barbaric"? Not to even mention the widespread practice of circumcision? Damn...drink JC's blood, eat his body and whack the tip off your baby's penis but DONT smoke that evil weed!

If a religious organization is permitted to ignore any law, statute or ordinance that it deems contrary to religious doctrine, then that religious body becomes the de facto government. This particular system is currently popular in much of the Middle East...
Short and simple: In the USA neither Muslims nor Mormons are permitted to have multiple wives, the children of Jehovah's Witnesses are not allowed to die in order to avoid a blood transfusion, and Catholic institutions and businesses should adhere to the same laws and regulations as other institutions and businesses. It's not rocket science...

Nothing remotely "great" about your saint, 3rd rate actor, schooled in telling convincing lies perfect for the wrong-winger party. Yes he showed obvious signs of paranoid dementia. Parrots, that's rich coming from one of you people, who lives in the brain-dead bubble echo-chamber of your insane radio-talk-show lunatics like the morbidly-obese-drug-abuser limbaugh, and your tv propagandist Faux-Noise-channel.

I agree and I HOPE he wont even talk about it any further. He ended his comment on the perfect note, saying birth control is a woman's right. The presidential wannabes (Larry, Moe and Curly) will keep kicking it around since they no longer have the economy to complain about, of course, but if Obama refuses to comment further, the only real damage they can do is to themselves.

You would think Obama would have given Catholics a chance to sacrifice their option if they chose to. Not the employers, of course. The health care recipients.

Huckabee is so full of it his eyes have turned brown and drainage streaks run down from his ears. Huckabee the wannabee has been down on Obama on day one. He's another racist asswipe that harped for a long time that Obama was a muslim and not a citizen, going to run the country into the ground yada yada yada. Wannabee should just take Chuck the ranger by the hand and skip into the sunset of GOP fantasyland and DISAPPEAR!

Good. So now we can dump the death penalty, start helping the poor, and stop killing people for oil. This is a welcome change. Maybe the administration can start alienating homosexuals and Muslims next.

Yeah, those evangelicals are all Catholics until a Catholic tries to tell them they don't believe in a literal interpretation of Scripture, and then ...
.... it's right back to the Reformation!

That unfortunately leaves the likelihood of falsifying their religion, because in the end most Republicans and GOP members tend to be Pro-Christan, something that violates Freedom of Religion to a specific point, and I know Gingrich and his "War on Christianity" means they want no "Freedom of Religion" and "Freedom of Culture", that would be their point.

These fools are trying to hold America hostage to all this pseudo-religious bullshit while the country is falling down around their freakin' ears...and the media is playing right into the game of dodge the important stuff for them...and I guess that makes anyone here complicit too...we should not let them monopolize our discussion with red meat bullcrap when there are too many real issues to worry about...nuff fuc*in' said.

Well that is because someone of my Facebook told me that it is some form of maing the United States a "1 Religion Only",
Well Washington State where I live has around 11 different Religions around the Region to choose in terms of having "Freedom of Choice", "Freedom of Culture" and "Freedom of Religion",
And so Far Republicans/GOP feel most of them think of it as the Devil Worship, reason for the US needs to be a Christan only Nation.

I don't think I understood what you said. I am not the brightest bulb in the box, so that's not surprising. But, we are not a religious nation and never have been...not Christian, not Jewish, not Muslim, not Hindu, not Budhist etc etc. That is pure bullshit that is pushed by wing-nut right wing losers who can't see that this country gains its power from diversity not exclusivity.
