Official GOP 2012 Platform Calls for Federal Ban on Abortion; No Rape Exemption

CNN reported on Monday that the draft of the GOP's official 2012 platform calls for a federal ban on abortion with no exception for rape and incest survivors -- the same policy Akin was trying to defend when he asserted that victims of "legitimate rape" have a natural bodily mechanism that prevents them from getting pregnant.
The platform also demands that the government "not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage," a policy that harkens back to the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act of 2011.
The GOP sponsors of that bill, including Akin and current GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), tried to narrow the definition of rape as it relates to abortion; only "forcible rape," the bill originally stated, warrants insurance coverage for abortion.

Whether you're pro-life or pro-choice, what do you think the GOP's official stance on abortion should be?

JessMag:
I think they should be pro-abortion, but given that won't happen, their position should be consistent with that of their Presidential candidate. I doubt every plank in every platform for all parties is always in sync with the leaders, but for such an important issue, they need to tighten it up. The variance between the party platform and the candidate's stated position, provides the Dems with plenty of ammunition to drive their point on right wing extremism home. And I hope they not only drive it home, but they drive a metaphorical stake into the hearts of the right wing extremists and their dreams of dominating the country.

Unbunch your panties people, there isn't going to be a fedral ban on abortion.
On another note, I wonder how many of you would be OK with killing the rapist and not only the product of the rape.
If you want to kill the baby, why not kill the rapist? He is actually more deserving of the act than the unborn child.

So in essence, "Your baby is more precious thing in the world until it's born. But once it's born, it's your mouth to feed, and we'll do everything we can to keep you from doing that successfully."
I swear, Republicans operate on the reptilian brain only.

Funny, I just posted a comment yesterday saying that I was certain that Roe v. Wade would be under renewed attack as soon as Romney-Ryan had the opportunity to replace one more Supreme Court Justice. The old and frail ones are the liberal justices.

The "Truthful" State of the Union .......
In all honesty, there is almost nothing that comes to mind that can be considered to be in a healthy state in this once great nation. Of the many things that we at one time or another this nation was praised for, or that which we as a people took pride in, almost nothing is left that stands out as being in good shape.
... The economy is in the toilet and there is no light at the end of the tunnel
... Our government is in a state of gridlock
... Our justice system has become a joke
... Worldwide, our military is looked upon as the nieghborhood bully
... Our education system is failing miserablly
... Our infrastructure is crumbling and no one seems to give a damn
... We are poisoning the very air we breath and the water we drink
... etc., etc., etc., .....We are crumbling from the inside out, beginning an unrecoverable slide into the obscurity of history. We have become a nation that expects a quick fix to a problem, without ever having to look back and repair the damage that got us into trouble in the first place. No one is willing to accept the blame for the wrongs they have done, much less having to take the responsibility of making right for any injuries that resulted.
I could go on and on about the problems that we have, the same stories we hear every day, yet absolutely nothing is being done to correct anything. Instead, we have those that wish to go to another arena and create even more problems with issues that had been rectified in the past. Nevermind the very fact that laws were put in place, laws which were hammered out to stand up to the test of constitutionality, there are those that want to undo decades worth of hard fought compromises that brought us closer to a sense of fairness, decency and equality for all.
Many of those running for public office in this cycle need to be defeated. For the very sake of this country, they need to be soundly defeated into obscurity, being forced to fade away, never again to raise their heads for any public office again.
What this country really needs is the resurgence of a sense of national pride, a rediscoverance of patrotism and loyalty to that which this country was founded upon .... Freedom, Liberty, and Justice for ALL! Without it, we are well on our way to being just another civilization that dies out, if we have not already past that point of no return.
This nation is in dire need of new leaders, those who would rather not be in the positions of leadership, but do so only because their nation needs them. Those who would lie and cheat in order to get into office, those are the cancer that we are faced with today, those are the ones that have a private agenda of their own, not that of the People.
We, as a People, need to search out find those among us who truly represent the ideals and principles this nation was founded upon. It is those that need be nominated for public service and elected into the offices we would have them hold. This is not an easy task, for finding those that can resist the temptations that come with the powers of public office are few and far between, but they are out there.
There are those among us that do hold the integrity of this nation higher than themselves. There are those that do feel that sense of loyalty and patrotism for their country that would fulfill the duties of office, sacrificing their own personal gain for the greater good of the whole. In essence, these were the principles that did steer this nation to greatness, not only in our eyes, but in those of the rest of the world as well.
Our Founding Fathers truly had a great and wonderful vision, and for the greater part of our history, that vision has held fast and true. It is now, within our lifetime that we see this vision tested more than ever before. Can we live up to the test that our Founding Fathers laid out, or will we falter and fail?

And these people will not provide any state support for babies who have needs beyond the capabilities of their mothers and /or fathers ability to support. Until then, no government mandate should become law, except education through planned parenthood. The decision should remain with the biological parents. I continue to voice PRO-CHOICE.

Abortion is all the GOP worries about. It's never been about jobs. I would like to talk to the women who are married to these men. They need their heads examined! I also don't understand a populace that doesn't get angry or turned off hearing these men talk the way they do. Last I heard, Akin was NOT dropping out of the race and he was tied in the polls with McCaskill!

I mean, isn't it obvious the plan here? They've been blocking jobs bills and pushing through anti-abortion ones for years: Paul Ryan even sponsored the Fetal Personhood Bill, Opposed Family Planning Funding:
