Abortion is such an ambiguous issue, yet everybody has such absolute answers. Lake of Fire was by far the best piece I have seen regarding abortion issue. Noam Chomsky gave great perspectives in the documentary.

To the young adult pro-lifer at 8:47, what about rape, where is there no choice on the females side to get in bed? Slippery slope isn't it?
To other religious folks trying to impose their will, read the book you force on others, Genesis 2:7, "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."
Or this argument, if a fetus is "alive", then it must have a soul from God, but the mother has her own independently judged soul, so it must be demonic possession or must not be "alive".
The arguments are comical. They should just admit the reason for Abrahamic religions being against abortion is because they want more disadvantaged serfs and poor worshipers for the government/religion to use and exploit for war, labor, and taxes. War used to have a 80% death rate, whoever had more people on the field wins, so abortion is treason of the state, since the state will have less war-able men to conscript. Poor americans are the most likely to go for our "volunteer" military, because its the military, or homelessness. Poor americans would benefit from abortion the most, if they can't feed themselves, how can they feed their children? (except to go on taxpayer welfare). If a child isn't planned, it shouldn't come into this world, its mothers and its life will be hell forever. No college, wage slavery, welfare, crime, drugs, etc. The same pro-lifers are the same people against medical birth control and for abstinence only sex ed, so smart ideas like the shot are unknown to average americans.
Finally, every time you have a period, its God telling you you murdered a future baby by not fertilizing it, blood runs down your leg to remind you of the sin and the blood on your hands. Abstinence is murder.

What about people who belong to a religion that does not believe that abortion is wrong if done in early stages, and does not believe a human being is a human being until is can live outside of its mother?
Many Christian relgions have this view. Buddhist believe that a child does not have a soul until it is 2 years old. Hindus do not consider abortion a sin, and there are many others.
So preventing someone of another faith that does not see abortion as a sin is imposing religious beliefs alien to that person on them. It is taking away their religious freedom.
Should non-Catholics stop the Pope from saying he is Infallable? Because all of them think that it is poppy cock that the pope thinks he is infallable.
My religion does not consider abortion a sin. They believe that responsible birth control should be taught to teens.
Catholics are against birth control thus they are causing more abortions among Catholics who may be desperate in many ways. They could already have 7 children and are very poor or unemployed or are in an abusive marriage. - 3 years ago

The girl at the end was correct. The women and the man already made the choice to get into bed with each other.

I think that more people need to think about womens health when dealing with abortion. Not every women gets an abortion because it's convenient. Many women have health issues that could kill them during pregnancy, not to mention rape. Pro-Choice people do not hate babies, as the video implies. We take into account all aspects of the situation and realize that women are the people making these decisions not men.

This was a good one. Many diverse views. But I can't believe the woman in the white and green jacket said she would give HERSELF an abortion if it was illegal. That is just so sickening. Instead of putting up the baby for adoption she is going to risk her life for the sake of not having to take care of another child. It would be sad to see her 2 children without a mother because she tried to get rid of their sibling.

Have you had a child? If you haven't, there is no way you can possibly imagine the sacrifice necessary to raise a child. It's one of the hardest most demanding job you can tackle. Do you understand the pain a child goes through if the mother is too stressed to care for it adequately?

I believe that abortion is murder. Do we give people a choice to murder or not to murder? no, if they do murder someone, we try and find them and punish them.
so why give someone the chance to murder a baby, who hasn't even been given a chance.
that is just sick.

What is murder and why do we condemn it? We don't concern ourselves if we kill other animals. Why do we sanctify human life and what does that mean? I believe sanctifying human life means caring for it and that does not necessarily mean keeping all human cells alive.
Embryos don't have the capacity to feel pain for the first few weeks when most abortions occur. The cerebral cortex is not even developed until 8 weeks. There is no sign of brain waves before 8 months and, in fact the neural sysnapses are not developed before then.
Why do we value these undifferentiated cells and unconscious sytems of cells more than the life a conscious woman and possibly her children. Why do we think it's more important to allow the development of an embryo than ensure its quality of life after it's born?
Do you even realize the problems of population today? Genocide is being committed all over the world in wars over resources. We're adding 2 billion people to the earth every 11 years. Do you think it's better that millions of people starve to death or are killed in wars so that we can make sure a systems of unconscious cells can develop into even more humans? It's sheer madness.

i agree it is murder...my friend deeply regrets getting an abortion 5 years ago. It haunts her everyday and she wonders why she listened to her exboyfriend who asked her to abort it.

The reason we condemn murder of fellow humans is because it's impossible to live in a community and feel safe if your neighbor is free to murder you when you anger them or get in their way. I don’t imagine it should extend to an embryo or fetus which is not yet developed enough to have the self-awareness which enables it to feel concern about their life. Forcing a child to grow up in a home where it’s not wanted or deprived often causes suffering that is unimaginable to those who haven’t experienced it and can prevent the development of real humanity in that child.
The same people who are so concerned about not murdering these embryos or fetuses are often quite enthusiastic about going to war which causes the greatest number of murders of children, so what are they really concerned about--protecting children or controlling women's sexuality? - 3 years ago

To hell with choice, never mind the fact that these babies would more often than not grow up in horrible conditions. I also firmly believe that there are enough people in this world as is.

why does the pro-life leaders always seem to be men? I am pro-life because the law only attacks women not men.It takes two to tango and it is not fair to only hassle the women. Besides, why can't they(pro-lifers) do thier christain duty and addopt all the babies off of foster-care?I guess a weak attempt is all the lord requires of them.Half-stepping Bastards

I saw this when it originally aired on the current in 2k5 and I am of the same opinion now, as I was then.
I too am against abortion, however, I believe that as a man I have no right to dictate to a woman what she must do with her body. The mother of the 16 year old made a good point, it is one thing to preach outside the clinic, but where will these people be when this child needs to be fed and so forth. Sure, the baby could be given up for adoption, however I reckon that would be much harder than the latter.
Further, a ban would only cause potential candidates to revert back to self induced abortions as they did prior to Roe v Wade. And anyone who can read should look at the lengths people went to to abort a foetus.

If only more people could assume your stance. That is being against it due to personal ethical, biological, spiritual, etc reasons, but not using your personal beliefs to launch a campaign based off religious zealotry and instead respect the personal beliefs and choices of others. If everyone could be so understanding there is no doubt the world would be a much better place.
I don't take a stance on whether abortion is right or wrong, so this is not to say I'm for it. I'm for the option and the right to choose, as well as preventing the dogma of some regulating our lives.

This is a very well done pod. Personally, I am against abortion. I used to be for it, but after knowing what is done the baby for the abortion, just astounds me. However, I do believe that any one is allowed to make their own decisions. It kind of angers me when people try to be overzealous and place themselves outside clinics to torment people...I think there are other effective ways to convince people not to get one. Most of the time, when somebody is set to do something, they will do it.

It may appear gorey, but does the embryo really have the nervous system to experience the pain? Does it have the cerebral cortex to have self-awareness. Most abortions are performed in stages where the CNS is so undeveloped that there is certainty there is no pain. Later abortions are performed when the cerebral cortex is not developed enough so that the fetus would be capable of self-awareness.
