They came off the Greyhound bus at its Jefferson Avenue station, armed with only two small digital video cameras.

Their goal: to educate their young, and mostly coastal, viewers about the temperature of middle America in the run-up to a presidential election.

Their ambassador to Toledo?

Ben Konop, the 32-year-old county commissioner who was elected on a platform of bringing the young, creative class back to Lucas County.

Mr. Konop chauffeured Lauren Cerre and Tyler Manson, two producers with the cable and satellite channel Current TV, around town yesterday afternoon to help with an hour-long documentary called The Great American Detour.

    • I wasn't aware that coastal viewers and young people were the only demographic in the united states able to care or understand the temperature of middle America in the run-up to a presidential election; quite a detour around all those other people I would say. Wouldn't it be helpful to middle America to understand itself better to provoke more change? Preachin' to the choir is not even half the battle; but when you've lost the battle completely with this coastal viewer right here by your condescending mission statement, it might be wise to change your "goal"
