Ideals aside, Im quite impressed on what his group did, they pretty much pulled off a by the book ambush with no casualties, unless the Ethiopians and Somalis did have any weapons but if there were close to 1000 of them they should have easily over come and counter the ambush.

This is a reaction. The 9/11 Commission and the CIA call it "blowback."

The leaders of this terrorist organization are mongers of the fears, faith, and insecurities of there subordinates. They are people of the worst degree and deserve nothing more than our pity. I also cannot help but realize that people on both sides of the conflict have very similar ways of controlling there people, not to say that I support what is being done by Al Qaeda or any other extremest group in the name of there leader or religion, but the fault is on both sides of the fight. I speak mainly of those in America and other developed countries who use religion our fear of difference to gain money, fame, or political and social power.

I'll pretty honest here, at least what I see in this terrorists eyes and voice of what I know about people... first of all this guy is high, and smoking hash, 2nd, i think this guy is really into killing, and the only way he could accomplish this is to go out of this country where killing people is allowed, such as in a war zone or afganistan... i mean listen to him how he giggles and talks... he has a very serious mental problem where he does not know right from wrong, maybe his parents fucked him up or his friends or someone kicked his ass...
anyone can be a tough guy with a gun and people on your side. ak-do so to speak.
i feel sorry for his soul, as he really has no idea what he is doing, likes a video game and he is the star... its really deep here.
again, look how he says killed, or when he laughs. its a "I'm high and check me out dude, look at what I am doing..."
yah he will play the tough part, but get him alone, see how he will cry and plead for his life...
my two bits... sorry punk ass trader
Your thoughts? :)

why is it that none of your leaders believe in suicide? if the people that follow these leaders do not see that they are merely pawns or slaves to idealogy then they themselves are not dying with honor....they are throwing their lives away.

Well if you are talking about the Al Shabab then the honor for them is in dying for their God (Martyrdom) no matter how misguided.

Vanguard / Current does society a dis-service showing this crap, under the guise of "documentary". A true documentary tells BOTH sides of an issue,,,,,this is just propaganda for a wacko group of violent religious fanatics. Now the wackos can claim that their cause is spreading ,,,,even airing in the USA.
Thanks for helping the enemy, Vanguard / Current.

Big man setting up an ambush... try going toe to toe with the US. Take us on face to face asshole and see if Allah will help you. Muslims in the crusades didn't fight like cowards as you do. You are all cowards and fight not for the rights of Palestine nor the rights of muslims. You fight for you own gain. You are all filthy pigs!!!

I find it rather disturbing how excited these people get, whenever they talk about killing. That's just not normal.
I would be ready to kill for the right reasons(defending my country/family/self, etc.), but I sure as hell wouldn't like it. - 1 year ago

I'm extremely fascinated by Americans who fight JIHAD against the U.S. on behalf of radicalism organizations around the world. I particularly remember watching this episode on Current a few weeks back and thinking how hypocritical is Omar Hammami. If anyone knows Islamic culture, you would know that faith and family come first. Omar Hammami left his family (son, wife and mother) in Egypt and never returned (what a nice guy, hmm). He eventually ended up in Somalia and became a highly regarded American Jihadi in the Islamic community. He utilizes youtube to recruit young men all over the world, particularly the U.S.. What a sad turn of events.
Fascinating journalism by Current TV, by far my favorite episode of the season.

I really got the sense in this of all the people that might join this type of thing to have something to "fight for". I'm not saying I agree with his/their actions at all but the sense of needing to belong was very tangible.
Martyrdom is part of the religious aspect of their indoctrination and it is about time us in the free world realized how open we are to a silent war where Islam recruits the down trodden into their cause. Then attack us also on our politically correct/guilt paranoia, pushing us to give social and legal concessions because "its our religion".
I don't think so. There is no concession if you understand what democracy means. Sure the west is not practicing it perfectly but who is? At least we have a functioning version of it. We should not water it down for any reason. If anything we all need to educate ourselves about what it is. Freedom of speech. Basic human rights. Compassion for others.

Perhaps that will be the case as long as religion is allowed to determine policy and drive public opinion. My feeling is that we need education and conversation about what democracy is and should be, so that when it is threatened many of us know how to recognize it and respond skillfully.

as a buddhist living in small town Tennessee i do get what it is like to have your belife system scorned and reticuled by the strong christian overtones of the people around you, but what this man has done takes passion for ones religon to a dangerous level. Killing and mutalateing human beings in the name of any god is an arcaic device used to intimadate people to faith and it is wrong no matter who commits the act

Unfortunately, Islam has been utilized at many different occasions throughout history by ambitious leaders as a tool to aid in their military efforts. These leaders are able to exploit the strongly held beliefs of their subjects to get them to fight and kill mercilessly, believing that they are earning their way into paradise.
