Greenland's Dying Glaciers: Scenes From Vanguard

Adam_Yamaguchi

watch more vanguard

In this scene from Vanguard's "I Heart Global Warming," correspondent Adam Yamaguchi visits Greenland -- a popular eco-tourism destination but also a front seat to watch crumbling glaciers. Shot in 2008, this episode eerily anticipates a recent break from the ice shelf that is more than four times the size of Manhattan.

"Vanguard," airing weekly on Current TV Wednesdays at 10/9c, is a no-limits documentary series whose award-winning correspondents put themselves in extraordinary situations to immerse viewers in global issues that have a large social significance. Unlike sound-bite driven reporting, the show's correspondents, Adam Yamaguchi, Kaj Larsen, Christof Putzel and Mariana van Zeller, serve as trusted guides who take viewers on in-depth real life adventures in pursuit of some of the world's most important stories.

    • In 2007, there was a video production I saw on one of my Dish
satelite network channels. It was entitled: " What the !#*! do WE
know, anyway !!! ??? " Marlee Matlin starred in it, but it was
realy about natural science and facts proving truth is stranger
than fiction. Every time I tell people this they never respond.
I suppose it's because they're awestruck, and not half asleep.
But, though this is something for Ripley's Believe it or not, they
used a natural science experiment to prove that the element
of water is a living, intelligent substance. I won't get into the
particulars now. But once you understand the truth of that,
it's not hard to understand all the logical entailments which
that fact infers. Before I found that out, I always wondered why
pure fresh water has the quality of absorbing even infra red
wavelenghts quickly, but releasing that heat energy so slowly.

That doesn't seem to make any sense because it should release
it at the same rate as it absorbs it. But when you consider that the
element of water is both living and intelligent, it makes perfect sense.
Those glaciers are fast disappearing because even in it's solid state,
water prefers to be liquid over solid, and gaseous over liquid. Why ?
Duh. It loves heat. That's why. The oceans are the heat exchange
system the Earth has to regulate it's outer temperature by means
of the atmosphere. Obviously, the air carries the water as long and
far as it can, then it drops it to distribute it everywhere it can because
our planet is a living planet, and water is it's signiture of life. It's
nontheless worrysome for humans to note this alarming trend of
melting glaciers. They're the world's fresh water reserve system.

With 6-7 Billion people depending on scarcer and scarcer fresh
water supplies for their very existence, we should be alarmed. So
long as Global Warming melts all the fresh water and dumps it
into the salt water oceans so we can't use it, humans are screwed.
The Earth will survive just fine. When the next Ice Age comes, the
continents will simply look different from techtonic activity after the
human population is decimated. At least so long as humans haven't
cut down all the trees to make the Earth look like Easter Island. And
there's still an O2 atmosphere to carry evaporated fresh rainwater.

We have to desalinate water fast even to survive to 2100 A.D. If you've
been following the History channel documentaries as I have then you
know the future of the human race is bleak whether one has gobs of
money or not. I'm more of a survivalist than most people are. I like
being close to nature, and plan to have my own greenhouse and
water condensers. But the masses don't have a chance in hell so
long as Americans have a society where they're not in control of
future world trends. The trends of the past, to which our present
was their future, have always been to sacrifice everything in sight to
make a buck while you can, devil take the hindmost, and let future
saps worry about the hand they're dealt because it's not our problem.
You know, realy visionary, forward thinking people. ( As if ) Article voted up.

    • you clowns run around the world (at the working mans expense) with a camera then you invent and build a tragedy of gigantic proportions around it, with half truths, omitted facts, and out right lies. Just take the freakin video and leave the propaganda out! political hacks, so condescending. Just because I don't have time to put my splitting mall down and globe trot like you, doesn't make me stupid.

Elite' USED to mean...above. superior. New Trans: dumbed down - egomaniacal
      hypocrites.

    • Oh please. do you fringe-dwelling fear mongers have ANYTHING real to report?
The titanic was sunk by JUST such an iceberg nearly 100 yrs. ago! It happens every year for 1000's of years.
If you find a dead whale..."THE WHALES ARE DYING. OH! OH! OH!

If you see a polar bear swimming "THE ICE CAP IS MELTING OH MY GAWD!!!HELP US!!!" He's swimming because thats what they DO! a polar bear can swim up to 300 miles. It's no different than a sea bird flying hundreds of miles. Of course it worked out well for al big oil gore. to the tune of 3 million dollars for a totally false "documentary".

THE SKY IS FALLING!!QUICK! WE better pass ANOTHER LAW and take more power from the public & confiscate those tax dollars ( momma wants a beemer' & my time-share on maui is due) OH WOE IS US! WOE IS US!

what I wouldn't do for just one taste of ...THE TRUTH. Just one tiny itty bitty morsel- even a paper thin NON-POLITICAL tid bit.

ANYTHING not agenda driven, motivated by greed or lust for power. Like in the good old days, before the rape of America really got started.
