Vanguard correspondent Adam Yamaguchi takes a look around Chongqing, China, a rapidly growing city where overcrowded, smoggy conditions may overpower the availability of modern accommodations.

"Vanguard," airing weekly on Current TV Wednesdays at 10/9c, is a no-limits documentary series whose award-winning correspondents put themselves in extraordinary situations to immerse viewers in global issues that have a large social significance. Unlike sound-bite driven reporting, the show's correspondents, Adam Yamaguchi, Kaj Larsen, Christof Putzel and Mariana van Zeller, serve as trusted guides who take viewers on in-depth real life adventures in pursuit of some of the world's most important stories.

    • As growth in Chonqin develops, labour is becoming cheaper and many people struggle through hardships to earn money in order to eat just enough for themselves, along with the frequent increase in food. They go through hard working conditions and poor health care. Not to mention the toxic environment the workers who immigrate there are working and immigrate in. The government should notice these aspects as Chongqin continues to grow in order to make this into a better place to live in China.

    • The rapid growth and development of Chongqin puts the vast wealth of China on display. With housing prices rising over 45% in the last 4 years, those who are not in the same position are suffering, because this growth has caused food prices to rise as well. This means the poorer population of China suffers. China needs to incentivise agricultural labour, as many former labourers are moving to cities such as Chongqin, and with an estimated projection of 50% of the population living in cities, the demand for food needs to be addressed by the government.

    • in this video i learned that i china there is much labour, and it is very cheap. they struggle in their lives to make money, and provide proper care for themselves. the increase in population isn't helping this issue as the problem rises. the working conditions are very hard. many people just get enough to eat a meal.

    • Hmmm, China is an amazing country, full of amazing culture. Its a shame how some parts of it are forgetting some of their traditions just to modernize...
