Uganda Tabloid Outs 100 "Top" Gays

When can we tell gays in Uganda that "it gets better"?
It has been a year since Uganda's controversial anti-gay legislation was first introduced. As we reported in Vanguard’s documentary “Missionaries of Hate,” international pressure has made it unlikely that the proposed law will pass, but a lot of damage has already been done.
And now comes news that a new local tabloid called Rolling Stone; (no relation to the US magazine) has reignited anti-gay fervor by publishing a front-page story listing Uganda's "top" 100 homosexuals, along with their photos and personal addresses.
In case readers of Rolling Stone” wonder what they should do with this information, the paper offers its own suggestion in a bright yellow banner, which reads, "Hang Them."
At least four gay Ugandans have already been attacked since the newspaper's publication. And not surprisingly, many others who were "outed" have gone into hiding in an attempt to avoid the same fate or worse.
In “Missionaries of Hate,” we saw how anti-gay sentiment, whipped up by religious and government leaders trying to pass the bill, had led to the eviction, harassment, intimidation, assault, and unlawful arrest of gays in Uganda.
And now, with the local media continuing the hate party, it looks unlikely that it will get better for gays in Uganda anytime soon.
Vanguard airs on Current TV on Mondays at 9/8c.

Has Vanguard excluded the possibility of watching full episodes online? I first discovered Vanguard & Current TV when I lived in Europe and was able to watch full episodes of Vanguard and Current programming while I was there. Now, as I have moved back to NY I watch it on cable. However, I watched a couple of episodes again online. Just now I was going to send the link to the full episode of "Missionaries of Hate" to several people both in the US and in Europe but, I can´t find it. What happened? Please don´t tell me they won´t be available online anymore.

on an average day I'd usually say that I'm ashamed of being an American sometimes, but when I read things like this I'm ashamed of being human...I hope that they do a follow up story to show us how things are going

ugh see what a lack of REAL education gets you. these people barely know left from right and then "priest" who proclaims himself to be an "activist" washes their brains with all his in the name of Christ crap and because they dont know any better they live their lives believing it and never end up noticing the wolf is sheep's clothing. The crappiest thing of all, this could also apply for the united states.

This is so sick it turns my stomach. I wish that someone would publish the publisher's of the magazines names and addresses and pictures so that they can be targets for their hate.

This is heartbreaking and goes to show how intolerance and hate can lead to violence. I hope that this eye opening opportunity will lend itself towards a change in the way that things run in their country.

This is crazy... I saw "Missionaries of Hate" and the things those religious leaders are doing is ridiculous ...their scare tactics, baseless Christian stance, harassment, and "corrective" rapes on homosexuals is disgusting. And now using popular local media to out gays and lesbians and calling for people to hang them -- wtf -- and they call themselves sons and daughters of God, it's a shame really, but all they really want is the Attention and the Power to control the minds of the people by using words of hate.
I propose that we help those in Uganda being BULLIED -- get some funding, donations and volunteers to write, to design, to create and to deliver to the masses of Uganda, whether it be through a newspaper, magazine, book or pamphlet with the TRUTH ...the truth about the corruption and the truth about what's really going on outside of the little tiny box they've been caged in by these attention/power seeking haters -- AND -- I wouldn't be surprised if these attention/power seeking haters are undercover gays themselves -- shoot, even pedophiles! I only say this because lately, the haters are usually a contradiction themselves.
Bill Maher said it best, "What is it with conservatives? Seriously, I'm not trying to be partisan but it seems like if they're anti-illegal alien, they have illegal aliens working for them. If they're anti-gay, they turn out to be gay. If they're super Christian, they're a witch."

they arent primitives, they are ignorant in an uneducated way and follow their church leaders. Their church leader MARTIN SSEMPAS watches perverse sexual internet videos and shows them during church, making his congregation believe this is the life of homosexuals. I THINK HE JUST WANTS TO WATCH EAT DA POO POO VIDEOS #twogirlsonecup

LOL! Their thinking is primitive, and that makes them primitive.
You're both just being sensitive because they're Africans. C'mon, admit it! I've called certain American groups primitive as well, you know.
They are primitive.

You're not listening. Let's have a course in Cultural Anthropology/ Sociology, yea? All races, regardless of technological feats, cultural differences, or ways of living, are not inherently primitive, as primitive assumes that a culture or a people is "sub-modern human" in some way. All races inherently have the ability to cope with any variation of situation, regardless of skin color or what continent they were born on.
There is no black chip on our shoulders. People think differently, live differently. My main point, and a point you should visibly see if you may deviate from this brainless recourse, is that you assume they are primitive based on "your" perspective. To another person, they may view it differently.
But I'll assume there are more brains in our heads.

I believe that makes me a North American, which makes my comment 100% accurate. And it makes the Ugandans Africans. Which is also 100% accurate!

Not true. I am a progressive. Societies progress. If my society is more progressed than theirs, they are relatively primitive.
Remember that we're talking about **Human Rights,** here. I'm not the bad guy. THEY are. And their way of thinking is primitive, JUST as the Westboro Baptist Church is primitive.
JUST as the repressors of women in Iran are primitive.
They all DO, after all, have MORE in common with true primitives than my more civilized society.
That's what freedom is all about, and I'm so glad I'm free to *accurately* describe their primitive way of thinking as such.
Go ahead, keep sticking up for those that repress & discriminate. It's ONLY a matter of opinion, isn't it?! We all must be SO politically correct, even when it comes to Human Rights violations, mustn't we?!

“Rolling Stone” IS not the same american one!!!!! you can be sure “Rolling Stone” is looking into legal matters on this just due to them looking bad. the “Rolling Stone” is a NEW mag only a few months old.. this is WHAT THEY WANT! US media covering! but also they really do feel this way the people behind this mag are the ones that helped promote and pass the new law.

yes and no..
this is really to hurt the america groups that are there helping and protecting the gay groups. some of them came a year ago when they passed new gay rules. this makes it REALLY hard for americans to help them now. but the thing is you can not remove them from there land that brakes international law and it would be a big deal. it could also create new rules restricting american support groups from going there. some support groups have talked to some of the people on the list and they do fear for there live. its funny because some of the groups there are NOT pro gays there pro life and are there because "there's a need"the thing about this is they really dont know the facts or the truth. they are told being in the same room as some one gay you can get it, YES many think if you wear clothes from a gay person you can get it. so to me personally the real issue is the lack of real info the simple fact is you might not be pro or con gays but it is not a virus that can jump from person to person how most people there think it can. could the gay people have worst dna and not as good as non gays they could be however has not been proved and if we just assume they are bad with out any real proof we act crazy gate and kill when we had the wrong facts.
