Vanguard Scores Sports Emmy Nom for 'Soccer's Lost Boys'

Congratulations to Vanguard for its fourth Emmy nomination. "Soccer's Lost Boys," correspondent Mariana van Zeller's investigation into the trafficking of young soccer players who dream of playing professionally in Europe but often fall prey to the shady middlemen and agents. It's estimated that 20,000 young African soccer players are now stranded in Europe. Many more never even make it that far and remain stuck in transit in port towns across Africa.

The episode was nominated for The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ (NATAS) upcoming 32nd Annual Sports Emmy® Awards in the Best Sports Journalism category. (See a full list of nominees here.) The Awards will be given out at the prestigious Frederick P. Rose Hall, Home of Jazz at Lincoln Center located in the Time Warner Center on May 2nd, 2011 in New York City.
