Three 'Vanguard' producers are finalists for Livingston Awards for Young Journalists

Congratulations to "Vanguard" correspondent/producer Mariana van Zeller, senior producer Alex Simmons and producer John Henion, who were each named as finalists for the 2010 Livingston Awards for Young Journalists! The awards recognize journalists under the age of 35 in print, broadcast and digital news.

"Vanguard" previously was recognized with a 2007 Livingston Award when correspondent Christof Putzel, then 28, received the award for International Reporting with his report, "From Russia with Hate." Putzel spotlighted the skinhead movement in Russia by gaining access to skinhead members and leaders who revealed, on camera, their strategy of intimidation via internet videos of beatings of minorities and immigrants.

Alex Simmons was nominated for his work on "Missionaries of Hate," which he produced along with van Zeller and Darren Foster:

This is the third time van Zeller has been named a Livingston finalist, having been nominated in 2008 along with Foster, and again in 2010 along with Cerissa Tanner for "The OxyContin Express."

Three $10,000 prizes are awarded for Local, National, and International Reporting to journalists under the age of 35. The winners will be announced on June 7, 2011.
