    • Adam's cheerleading of the Drug War Nazis is beyond the Pale. Sickening. It's almost as bad as "Totally Wasted" - another "Drug War, Inc." show on Current. Stick with the toilets, Adam. It's must more suited to your brand of propaganda-forwarding, "Gee whiz, officer!", "journalism. Tell me: do you really think Prohibition is a good idea? Sure seems like you do.

    • Vanguard has changed me forever! I lost my job and was indulging in self pity when I came across this show. I swear that the first episode I watched rocked me so hard I was crying into a pillow. How could I be upset about the things happening in my life when other people in the world live normal everyday lives in situations I’d rather be dead than have to endure? The “Shit Episode" as we call it at my house was watched by my husband, my seven year old Jessie, and me. I try to give my daughter little talks about the rest of the world being excluded from the way we live here in The US, but mostly she just says ok mom and it’s in one ear and out the other. This was different; she sat and watched with her big blue eyes full of astonishment and disgust. She was sad and mad all at the same time! That’s the stuff they should be showing in school. It would change this next generation. They wouldn't be the success driven monsters that we have become. They might be compassionate and giving people that seek out into the world to find the people that time and money have left behind. It might also teach us a little something about getting back to basics. The economy might not affect us in such a bad way if we relearn that it’s possible to live happily with much less than we've become dependent on.

      Thanks Adam and Vanguard!

    • What an eye-opening episode on the world toilet issue. Truly an inspiring story that makes me more grateful and appreciative about the "little" and "basic" things that we have in life. Thank you Adam. Keep up the good work, and GO BRUIN!!!

    • Adam, I have recently returned from two years working with a sustainable democracy organization in both Bangladesh and Indonesia. Your work in the "toilet issue" is right on the mark. Very sad situation.

    • The High School I attended, Gonzaga in Washington DC has a service project(G.I.V.E.) that sends students to live and work with families in extreme poverty. Building toilets is always the number one priority, before electricity, running water, doors or even roads to allow access to the villages. Toilets provide function, health but most importantly Dignity.

    • Adam, the 'toilet' feature was definitely an eye opener. Thanks for reporting on an issue that is rarely, if at all, discussed here in the states. I am a fan of all the Vanguard correspondents and their style of reporting. I appreciate it when correspondents show their human side while reporting on a subject. Keep up the great work!

    • I stumbled across this channel and Adam. I've watched almost non-stop for two weeks. You guys make me humbly aware of the chaos of this world and the fact that I need to participate. On a lighter note, I'm crushing on Adam.

    • Dear. Adam Yamaguchi

My name is Andrew. I hope you are keeping well.
Greetings from Seoul in south Korea!
I am writing this message because i was introduced to you by many korean man.

I am curious to hear your opinion on how our famous singer Tablo (Daniel Lee) is doing.
You first read a this article,
      http://joongangdaily.joins.com/article/view.asp?aid=2921706
It must be noted that despite his best efforts, he was still unsuccessful.
60,000 member of online community still make a question of his academic career. (http://cafe.naver.com/whathero)
There is no program in which we can handle the academic career authentication of the Stanford University in Korea.
In Korea, it is the large-scale issue.
I have every hope that we will come to an agreement soon.
If there is anything I can do for you, it would be my pleasure to help.

      Sincerely yours,
      Andrew

    • Yeah, I can be a "dick" sometimes; but if you actually read my whole comment, I was mostly in praise of Adam's work. The vomitting example was just that, an example. Yeah, folks are likely to vomit when confronted with the conditions apparent during the "Toilet" feature, I just thought he was remiss in not editing that out during post production, and using that clip wasted time to ratchet up the sense of urgency (not boyish vomitting and gigling like a little boy) that the story deserved. If that qualifies me as a "dick", then color me guilty. I have no problem with reporters being human and stuff like vomitting sans cue can happen. I can dig it.

That being said, I want to make it clear that I admire the moxy that Vangaurd has been given the priviledge and opportunity to cover these powerful stories and that these young folks are growing the balls to finally cover important stories and issues that the "networks" seem to have ignored.

My concern, again, is the fine line of allowing personal politics, passions and the lure of wanting to be a journalistic "star" to water down the integrity of the story at hand. I suppose the fact that Adam is "reporting" on IS coming from Current network, then all bets are off on my Journalism 101 comments, meaning that I suppose I was remiss in wanting to believe that Adam's obvious talents I intended to point out should be ignored and I should just lable him not as true journalist that I think he could continue to be, but rather simply a feature writer (not journalist) with the ability to mix fact with fiction and continue to call it "important" work. Adam, if that's the kind of journalism you want to practice (and I don't think it is...), then you probably will want to start to grow that bushy mustache and hair sans Geraldo style... Please, for the sake of your serious fans, don't go there!!!

Simply sick of watered-down, so-called "serious" journalism.
Also, self-admitted (and often accused) part-time dick...

Considering your 'adam'ant concern (oh i love it) for "Journalism 101" technique you fail to acknowledge another reporting basic -- know your audience; who are you writing/reporting for? In FACT, "good story writing" INCLUDES looking for "a new angle, interpretation, reaction and explain the implications... News does not happen in a vacuum...it’s the context that makes the story." Go ask Reuters, I'm sure they agree as that's my source and not just my opinion. So get off your soapbox, no-one (especially Adam) asked for your advice. And if you plan to give any, back up what you're saying, because spouting Journalism 101, and 45 years of age does NOT earn you any credibility.

BTW... just my OPINION.. Adam YOU ROCK!

    • Your piece, "World's Toilet Crisis," was the first Vanguard episode I watched. I appreciate your style, straightforwardness, and ability to communicate issues that are somewhat taboo. You've got me hooked and now have a new a favorite station to keep up with, THANKS! :)

    • Adam, most of your work is pretty good. The big problems I have concerning your style is when you inject yourself and your personal and bias opinions into the story that truly dilutes the integrety of your work. Journalism 101, when I was going to school, indicated that the jounalist should be just that; a jounalist that reports the facts of any given story, and lets the viewer make up their own mind, conclusions, opinions, etc. If you want to be just a star, then go to Hollywood; I think you would do well, in fact...

An example I found disturbing was in the promo of the "toilet crisis" in third world countries; I don't think the shots of you vomiting really had a place in the story. I don't think we need another Geraldo Rivera. You're potential dictates that your better than that. I realize that the "striaght journalism" has gone out of style in the last couple of decades, but it doesn't have to die completly. On a positive note, you've got tremendous energy and commitment to the work/story. I truly admire that, and will enjoy following your career. I hope your career evolve where your integrety can remain intact. Take care, and keep plodding along!!!

      Sincerely,
