About Kaj Larsen

Kaj Larsen is a correspondent for Current TV’s no-limits documentary series, “Vanguard.” This season he travels to Colorado Springs, a city whose police are overwhelmed by thousands of soldiers and veterans who return from war afflicted by PTSD.
Read more about Kaj's background...
Kaj Larsen began working for Current TV in 2005 to cover the then forgotten war in Afghanistan. He profiled the first Afghan woman running for office, reported on the surging heroin trade and traced the last known steps of Osama bin Laden. Two years later, Larsen returned to Afghanistan to report on the resurgence of the notorious Taliban militia in the wake of diminishing public support for Coalition forces. Larsen has gone on to report on issues ranging from landmines in Cambodia to the meth epidemic in Hawaii. Larsen received widespread recognition for his report on
waterboarding in 2007, during which he willfully underwent the procedure in order to more completely explain it to viewers.
Prior to his work in television journalism, Larsen spent five years serving as a U.S. Navy SEAL. As a young Lieutenant, he led a SEAL team of special warfare personnel in covert operations overseas.
Larsen received his Masters degree in Public Policy from Harvard
University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. He is a joint fellow at the Jebsen Center for Counter-Terrorism studies and the Shorenstein Center for Press, Politics, and Public Policy.

Hey Kaj , I knew you back when u palyed water polo under Sams coaching. I worked with Sam at the Catalyst. You were always a solid dude. always had the hottest girl friends :-) I am glad you made it back from the Seals in one piece. Remember Gregg, I talked him into the service, at least I think I did. Gregg went hardcore, Green Beanies.
Anyway its good to see you pulling this part of your life off solid. - 1 year ago

KAJ, in this time of change your contributions and those of the Vanguard team are even more important. Thanks so much for you're approach and the way you communicate. I think you guys are the best thing on TV. Pros. You are changing the face of journalism and providing information I can't get any where else. Best of all, You bring experience and maturity to the table, without trying to sway opinion or skew the facts. It's not an easy task, but nothing honorable ever was. Thanks for your discipline. It's doesn't go unnoticed. I grew up watching old school 60 Minutes, Charlie Rose and American Experience. I've watched you since you started here and I could always watch the same lesson multiple times and get more out of it. Thanks!

Your piece on War Crimes is fantastic. Kudos. It is well researched, well written and informative. Bringing light to this overwhelming situation is commendable.
As a Body Language Expert, it is fascinating to me on so many levels, but from the few veterans, (or ex-veterans???) there are definite similarities and red flags. Watching the footage, I see the pattern, knowing that the military does not want to acknowledge the terror these people see, live with and have to cope with...well.... It is not, not 'all in a day's work'!
Would very much enjoy a conversation with you and your team.

Kaj, I have been a devotee of Vanguard for a while, after watching your reports and the way you fabricate the description of what is at large I decided to investigate you and your bio. Blown away I was with your background of degree in Public Policy at Harvard and undertaking in the Navy Seals. I hold you in mind to the utmost, for you are an illumination in my heart and modivation in my mind as I train for SAR for the Navy.
I shall continue to follow your expeditions in the future, keep it up, you, Adam & Mariana are doing exceptional work!
