Even NASCAR fans are steering clear of Mitt

If you had to pick one demographic that should be solid for Mitt Romney, it would be the so-called NASCAR vote. But that brings us to our number of the day: seven.

That’s how many points President Obama is ahead of Mitt Romney among NASCAR fans.

This is from a Zogby poll that found the president leading Romney 49 percent to 42 percent among self-described NASCAR fans. As a NASCAR fan myself, that made me feel better about my fellow fan base. But it also shows how much trouble Mitt Romney is in.

NASCAR crowds tend to be middle-aged white men — the Fox News target audience. When even they’ve decided this vulture capitalist with the off-shore money and the Etch-A-Sketch politics just doesn’t represent them, he’s in trouble.

And by the way, this whole presidential race feels like a NASCAR race. The candidates just go around in circles without making any progress.
