But I’m here to tell you that Paul McCartney, at age 71, is a walking, talking, rocking, bass-electric-acoustic guitar—and keyboard—playing septuagenarian billionaire ad for a vegetarian diet who is cooler than you and can kick your hipster ass.”—John Fugelsang.

“Viewpoint” host John Fugelsang and Matt Brown, co-founder of Global Zero, discuss the feasibility of a world without nuclear weapons and the technical and political changes that would need to take place to make it a reality. Brown is confident that changes can happen “in our lifetimes” with the implementation of a “universal, unrestricted, intrusive verification system” and by “getting all the players to the table.”

“We’re not going to get to zero while president Obama is in office, but he could set the course. He could put the motion in process to get to zero. …There are three stages. The U.S. and Russia have to get their arsenals down—they have 95% of the weapons. Then we’ve got to get a critical mass of the leading nuclear powers. For example, the permanent five members of the security counsel who are the original nuclear powers: United States, Russia, China, France and Britain. Get those leading nuclear powers to the table. Start the process, start the negotiations, start setting up the verification system—which is critical. Then we can build from that—political pressure, international pressure, that makes it increasingly difficult for the outlying countries that haven’t joined into the process to come to the table so we start working our numbers down to zero,” says Brown.

“Viewpoint” host John Fugelsang and political panelists Basil Smikle (Democratic strategist), L. Joy Williams (host of “TWiB! in the Morning”) and Tom Doherty (Republican strategist) discuss Iran’s new president, Hasan Rowhani, and whether or not he has any real political pull. The midranking cleric has vowed to integrate the country back into the international community and asked Western nations to adopt a more “respectful rhetoric” toward Iran, NPR reports. According to CBS News, Rowhani has said his victory will herald “a new era” for Iran.

Fugelsang asks if the support of the younger generation will make a difference in giving Rowhani the power he needs to negotiate nuclear strategy for the country. Doherty doesn’t think so: “Once he steps out of line, (the Ayatollah) will drag him home and say, ‘Good night,’” says Doherty.

“Viewpoint” host John Fugelsang and Jennifer Fiore, vice president of Public Affairs at Moms Demand Action, discuss this past week’s press conference and other events on Capitol Hill attended by families and supporters of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting victims. Fiore was in Washington with the families and advocacy groups calling for Congress to move on gun control legislation. Tomorrow marks the six-month anniversary of the tragedy.

Vice President Joe Biden will hold a gun control forum Tuesday at the White House, the Associated Press reports, the first forum since the Manchin-Toomey amendment failed to garner 60 votes in April.

Fiore, who believes a lot has changed since the American public responded with “such vitriol” to the first Senate vote, described what she thinks it will take for gun control legislation to pass: “It is absolutely about the people power. It’s all about people at home picking up the phone and calling their members of Congress, and not just today or once every now and again —on a routine basis. Because that’s what the gun lobbies’ activists do. They call five to 10 times more often than we do because we’re busy people and it’s not something that’s been top of mind for us. And it probably has to become that for this to change.”

“Viewpoint” host John Fugelsang and Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., analyze the latest immigration bill, which, as part of a bipartisan effort to overhaul immigration policy, includes requiring those who entered this country illegally to pay approximately $2,000 in fines before being able to achieve permanent residency. Gutierrez is confident that despite financial obstacles, undocumented families will support the bill in order to stay in the U.S.

“In the end, John, here’s what I’m concerned about: 11 million undocumented workers who are exploited every day. And the Obama administration is ripping them at $1,200 a day — today, tomorrow and every day. And every day that goes by, that’s hundreds of children left without a mom or dad. … I’m going to tell you, John, … they are going to pay (the fine) happily,” Gutierrez says, explaining that the end result of having that sense of safety and certainty that they can raise their kids is worth it. He adds, “There will be millions of people who are going to be happy and content. … We’re going to allow them to protect themselves as American workers, and that has a value … you can’t put a price tag on.”

John Fugelsang comments on the latest developments in the Steubenville rape case.

“Unfortunately, this may be the information age, but it’s also the pro-male, blame the victim, slut-shaming age as well. Twenty-six-year-old corporate cyber security expert Deric Lostutter, also known as KYAnonymous, whose work played a key role in exposing this crime, could face up to 10 years in prison if he’s convicted of hacking. That sentence is five times longer than the ones given to the actual rapists themselves. … What a great message! ‘Hey — rape a woman and we’ll throw the book at you. Help catch and convict the rapist and we’ll throw a whole library at your face,’” says Fugelsang.

“Viewpoint” host John Fugelsang, Faiza Patel (Brennan Center for Justice) and Alexis McGill Johnson (Democratic strategist) discuss President Barack Obama’s role in National Security Agency surveillance and whether or not the American Civil Liberties Union has a real case against the Obama administration. Johnson agrees that “the most transparent president in history” should provide detailed information to the public about the NSA’s blanket security tactics, but doesn’t think it will happen. “When you look at the context of where a lot of Americans, particularly on the left, are experiencing this president, he feels very, very similar to the previous president. When we look at not just foreign policy, but our drone policy … there’s a whole set of concerns that we’ve had for many years that we thought this president — particularly as a constitutional scholar by trade — would actually help us get to a better place. I think we do have broad concerns about that. … I do not think that it’s going to change substantively under him,” says Johnson.

Patel thinks that the ACLU has the standing to sue: “Standing is the most difficult barrier to bringing a lawsuit on surveillance. It turns out the ACLU was a Verizon business customer, so it knows its records have been collected. It is able to allege that its privacy, in terms of communications with potential clients, whistleblowers, others who want to have a private conversation, has been compromised by this. So if anybody has a standing at this point in time, the ACLU has a pretty strong case,” says Patel.
