‘A contaminant to our democracy’: ‘Gasland’ director Josh Fox warns of the dangers of fracking

Josh Fox, director of “Gasland” and the short film “The Sky Is Pink,” tells “Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer why hydraulic fracturing, aka fracking, is not only a health hazard, but also a threat to the U.S. political system, given the powerful lobbying efforts of the oil and gas industries.

Last week, Fox participated in “Stop the Frack Attack,” a Washington, D.C., rally to protest the controversial practice of drilling for natural gas. Fox emphasized that the rally was meant to highlight the power of the gas industry: “They inject hundreds of millions of dollars into our political system, and that in fact is a contaminant to our democracy.”

“You’re gonna be trading water for gas,” Fox warns. “Literally, we know the pollution is going to happen, so when you’re making the choice to drill for gas, you’re gonna be degrading the water quality in that area.”
