“Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer and Brian Beutler, senior congressional reporter for Talking Points Memo, analyze statements former President Bill Clinton made during an interview on CNBC, which Republicans and media pundits pounced on as an example of Clinton contradicting Obama.
Clinton said that Congress may need to delay any decision on the Bush tax cuts, which expire at the end of the year, to avoid the fiscal cliff. Beutler argues that the media’s response may have been misleading. “What happened with Clinton yesterday was that he said something that political reporters doing their jobs right should have realized wasn’t controversial and wasn’t out of step with, or majorly out of step with, the White House or the Obama campaign at all,” he says.
