Eagle Scout Zach Wahls, author of “My Two Moms,” whose 2011 address to the Iowa House of Representatives about his experience being raised by a gay couple went viral on YouTube, tells “Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer about Jennifer Tyrrell’s Change.org petition, which he delivered on her behalf to the leadership of the Boy Scouts of America. The petition aims to end the organization’s discrimination against gay scouts and leaders and to reinstate Tyrrell, an Ohio den leader who was ousted for being gay.
Wahls also reflects on his recent opportunity to meet President Obama and the president’s endorsement of marriage equality: “To know that there is now a man sitting in the Oval Office who supports, publicly supports, my family and our right to exist is a huge step, and I know that there were a lot of folks who were kind of caught up in the political calculus that went into that decision. However – and I told this to him – I was less concerned about the political calculus and more concerned that he actually had the courage to say it.”
