Eliot Spitzer: ‘Society needs to figure out what privacy means in this era’

“Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer invokes George Orwell in expressing his concern regarding the interpretation of privacy in an era when a Manhattan court has ordered Twitter to release its message records for Occupy Wall Street protester Malcolm Harris; National Security Agency whistleblowers disclose secret government surveillance of Americans; and Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) calls out phone companies for revealing customer records to law enforcement. Spitzer describes the “downside” of the rapid evolution of technology: “While information can circle the world at the speed of light, privacy can disappear just as quickly.” Spitzer urges, “Society needs to figure out what privacy means in this era and how to protect it.”
