Noting that the president emphasized state rights when it comes to legalizing marriage, Spitzer questions whether Obama should have gone even further by endorsing the idea that same-sex couples should have a constitutional right to wed. “I think we should try not to put too fine a point on it,” Socarides says. “I give [Obama] a lot of credit. I really think it’s a profile in courage.”
