Is Obama’s evolution on gay marriage just beginning?

Noah Feldman, Bemis Professor of Law at Harvard University and a Bloomberg View columnist, and Richard Socarides, former LGBT adviser to President Clinton and former president of Equality Matters, consider President Obama’s gay marriage endorsement. Noting that the president emphasized state rights when it comes to legalizing marriage, Spitzer questions whether Obama should have gone even further by endorsing the idea that same-sex couples should have a constitutional right to wed. “I think we should try not to put too fine a point on it,” Socarides says. “I give [Obama] a lot of credit. I really think it’s a profile in courage.”
