Joseph Stiglitz, economist and author of “The Price of Inequality,” sits down with “Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer” to discuss America’s growing income inequality and what might happen if existing trends persist.
“Americans today are worse off than they were a decade and a half ago,” Stiglitz says. And if the income gap widens, “We [will] become an increasingly divided society, like some of the societies that you see in developing countries, emerging markets [and] the Middle East, where you have a few people at the top living in gated communities, isolated, living lives that are totally different from the lives of most of the other citizens in those societies.”
