‘No one wanted to admit they’d made a mistake’: Damien Echols, one of the West Memphis Three

Former death row inmate Damien Echols, one of the West Memphis Three, tells “Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer about his experience serving 18 years in prison on murder charges and how his life has changed since he was set free.

“The state [of Arkansas] would have gotten away with murdering me,” Echols says. “The only reason they even — that I’m sitting here now is that the pressure became too great, there was too much of a public outcry and they knew it was gonna cost them if they didn’t do something in this case.”
