Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) reacts to Mitt Romney’s 47 percent comments with “Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer. In a now infamous video taken in secret at a private fundraiser, Romney derided the 47 percent of the country who don’t pay income taxes for being “dependent upon government” and believing “they are victims.”
Referring to how retired people living off Social Security are among that 47 percent, Sanders says that “[Romney] is lecturing working-class people who have spent their entire lives working, taking personal responsibility for raising their kids, struggling, some, in some cases, going off to war to defend us, and this guy is lecturing those people because they’re now on Social Security and Medicare — programs that they paid for.”
Sanders goes on to say that Romney’s comments are “a look into how the ruling class of this country feels about working people.”
