Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, joins Current TV’s John Fugelsang to discuss legislation he and a bipartisan group of representatives plan to introduce that would require background checks for prospective gun buyers. Thompson predicts that universal background check legislation will pass both the House and the Senate and will then be signed into law. “There are very few people who are on the anti-background-check side in this debate,” Thompson says. “The American people are solidly behind it, and once the folks who are dragging their feet and those who claim now to be opposed to it start hearing from the folks back home, I think it’s going to be a whole different situation.”
