Dan Gross, economics editor at Yahoo! Finance, tells “Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer that there’s reason to be optimistic about the American economy, despite recent jobs figures that were well below expectations. “The private sector has actually been doing really well. Our economy is now larger than it was before the crisis,” he says. Both Spitzer and Gross agree that one of the main problems is the number of government jobs — such as teacher positions — that are getting cut. “I call this the conservative recovery, because every month the private sector adds jobs … and the public sector cuts them,” Gross says.
