The Latino vote may be crucial in November — but will voters be able to reach the polls?

Rep. Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif.) and Penda Hair, co-director of the Advancement Project, join “Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer to discuss a recent study showing that restrictive voting laws could prevent as many as 10 million eligible Latinos from voting in November.

Given a lack of evidence of voter fraud, Spitzer asks about the potential for legislation that would enable more people to vote, including same-day registration, the ability to vote by mail and more uniformity in election practices.

“Each state, and actually each county does things differently in each state, and so more uniformity would be important,” Sanchez says. “But unfortunately, at least in the House of Representatives, we never even get [these solutions] into committee because [the Republicans are] controlling it, and of course, it probably doesn’t behoove them to enlarge the circle of voters who come to vote.”
