Bill McKibben, environmentalist and founder of 350.org, joins “Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer to discuss “Global Warming’s Terrifying New Math,” the Rolling Stone article he described on Twitter as “the most important thing I’ve written in many years.”
McKibben highlights arguments made in the piece, including the point that the fossil fuel industry has never had to pay any tax or fee for the pollutants it has dumped into the atmosphere. “This is the greatest special break that any industry ever got. It explains how Exxon made more money than any company in the history of money last year. That’s why they’re so rich, and it’s why people like the Koch brothers fight so hard to make sure that we never have a government that will stand up to them on it,” he says.
The conversation with McKibben continues in a “Viewpoint” Web exclusive here.
