Tico Almeida: Gay Americans are ‘wedge issues no more’

Gay rights activist Tico Almeida, founder and president of Freedom to Work, explains why this year’s election was a “turning point” in the fight for LGBT rights. “President Obama has proven once and for all that elected officials can take a strong stance in favor of LGBT fairness and not fear any real backlash from the voters,” he says.

Almeida also highlights an executive order that would ban companies with federal contracts from discriminating against LGBT employees, something he is confident the president will sign soon: “We expect some real progress now that President Obama has been re-elected.”
