Was Venezuela a democracy under President Hugo Chavez?

Former U.S. Ambassador to Venezuela Jeff Davidow and Nikolas Kozloff, author of “Hugo Chavez: Oil, Politics and the Challenge to the U.S.,” talk with Current TV’s John Fugelsang about the death of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. Davidow and Kozloff debate whether Chavez embraced or suppressed democracy during his 14-year reign.

“During his rule he pretty much destroyed all of the independent institutions of checks and balances in Venezuela … and pretty much wound up as a one-man, autocratic ruler,” Davidow says of Chavez.
