State Dept. whistleblower Peter Van Buren: ‘We couldn’t find enough ways to throw the money away’

“Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer and Department of State whistleblower Peter Van Buren, author of ”We Meant Well: How I Helped Lose the Battle for the Hearts and Minds of the Iraqi People,” sit down to discuss the true cost of the Iraq war and Van Buren’s claim that the State Department is retaliating by trying to have him fired. The former U.S. Ambassador to Morocco was appalled by the waste and failed attempts to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people: “Projects would be funded, money would be spent — nobody would even look at the results. The important thing was to have pictures taken, propaganda put up, signs made in English so that the signs would look good on television and we would move onto the next thing … never bothering to look over our shoulder,” says Van Buren.
