Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) reacts to Mitt Romney’s speech at the 2012 NAACP convention in Houston.
Among many other omissions, Jackson Lee notes that Romney neglected to mention “any opposition to voter ID laws, which will suppress at least 5 million voters, many of them in the African-American community.”
Jackson Lee also remarks that Romney’s speech may have been geared toward a different audience: “These realistic [NAACP] voters who really understand the economics of job creation, understand the toiling of fighting against discrimination, really were probably a fixture in a step or a stop that the campaign wanted to make.”
