Thomas Pickering, a former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, joins John Fugelsang on “Viewpoint” to offer his assessment of secretary of defense nominee Chuck Hagel’s Senate confirmation hearing. Pickering and Hagel, a former Nebraska senator, collaborated on Global Zero’s U.S. nuclear policy report.
“I have no doubt that Sen. Hagel, as he made clear today, supports Israel, a strong Israel, and Israel’s security and safety,” Pickering says. “He, like many Israelis, perhaps a majority, believes that in the long term, a negotiated two-state solution would be better than being under perpetual potential siege by the rest of the Middle East.”
