“Viewpoint” host Eliot Spitzer debates Rick Tyler, campaign adviser to Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.). Akin, who is running for the Senate in Missouri against Claire McCaskill, recently made headlines for comments he made regarding what he termed “legitimate rape.”
Spitzer questions Tyler about Akin’s positions on health care and the Constitution’s 17th Amendment, which allows the public to vote directly for senators and which Akin favors repealing.
On health care, Tyler says that “the right has advocated that there’s a free-market solution for health care because there’s a free-market solution for everything else.” On the 17th Amendment, Tyler says that prior to its ratification, state legislatures selected a state’s senators. But now state legislatures have no “leverage with the federal government.”
