Which unlikely UK city will have a beach this summer?

A whopping great load of sand, 300 tonnes to be sure, will be dumped in Nottingham's Old Market Square. Why? Why not?

For some reason or other, Nottingham City Council have deemed it a good idea to make the UK's largest man-made resort in their landlocked city.

To make it even more authentic, they'll be adding a giant paddling pool, deck chairs, crazy golf, Punch & Judy and a helter-skelter - y'know, like the ones in er, San Antonio, the Costas, Bournemouth and Faliraki.

There's also going to be beach side bars and the place will be open from 10am to 10pm

Local councillor Dave Trimble: "This is a fantastic way to give everyone the chance to enjoy the seaside and it doesn't have to cost a penny." Presumably forgetting how the City Council is funded...
