Man withdrew £75k from bank as they wouldn't loan him £32k!

An artist in New Zealand has withdrawn all the money he had in a bank as they refused him a loan. Roger Griffiths had been with the bank for 25 years and had never missed a payment - on top of that, he's actually quite wealthy.

Griffiths was so incensed he chose to not only withdraw all his money from his Westpac bank account, but also demanded it to be paid out in NZ$20 notes (that's £8!)

Why did Westpac refuse the £32,000 loan when the man has £75,000 deposited with them? Because, as an artist, he doesn't have a regular income.

    • I would have opened 75,000 savings accounts and deposited a $1 in each. Waited a week and then asked for each to be closed. How much would that have cost the bank in admin ???? Banks are the b**tards that have caused this recession and the Banks need to be taught a severe lesson. Yes, thats right, it's our money that pays your F%%king stupid salaries !!!!

For psychological reasons people often regard their savings in a completely different way to their day-to-day cash. Savings are kept for a specific purpose [holiday, car, retirement, whatever] and aren't even considered when something else is being paid for.
