After a robber held up his bank, teller Jim Nicholson legged it after the guy, tackled him and pinned him to the ground with the help of a bystander before police arrived. Pretty heroic stuff, right? The sort of thing that should probably be rewarded or thanked, yep?
The Seattle bank he worked for disagreed and fired him for breaking company policy. Bank workers are sensibly advised to comply with robbers demands so nobody gets hurt and leave the cops and robbers stuff to the police.
Nicholson said he understands why he was given the boot.
"They tell us that we're just supposed to comply, but my instincts kicked in and I did what's best to stop the guy," he said. "I thought if I let him go he would rob more banks and cause more problems."
Brilliantly the heroics are a bit of a theme for Nicholson, who says he's chased shoplifters in previous jobs.
"It's something I almost look forward to. It's a thrill and I'm an adrenaline-junkie person. It's the pursuit," he said.

Brenda in HR probably decided there was a breach of his contract.
The lesson. Banks are trying to lay off loads of people. Don't do anything that could get you sacked.
