A man struck by lightning after sheltering under a tree has miraculously survived after it went into his earlobe and out of his left ankle.
Brad Gifford, a 38-year-old bricklayer, was walking his dogs when he decided to shelter under a tree during a thundestorm in a park.
A friend said he saw the strike, which hit the tree and deflected onto Mr Gifford.
Edward Foster, 45, said: "There was a massive bang and a terrific white light. For a second I could not comprehend what had happened.
"I was six feet from Brad and saw the whole of the right side of his chest was on fire.
"His eyes were closed, he was still standing bolt upright and then suddenly keeled over.
"I though he was dead and screamed his name at the top of my voice.
"It was the most terrifying thing I've ever seen - It's probably just as well he can't remember much."
Mr Gifford has burns to 11 per cent of his body and perforated eardrums.
"All I know is what has been relayed by other people," he told the Daily Mail.
"The only the thing I remember doing is driving to the lake after work on Friday. I don't remember any bang or being hit.
"I'm just glad I wasn't holding the dogs' leads when I got hit. That would have been the end of them.
"My hearing is still shot and and my left ankle is the most badly burned. Everywhere else I've just lost the first two or three layers of skin.
"I feel a bit battered and bruised all over."

What a sweet man - happy he wasn't holding his dogs' leashes! It's amazing he's alive; I love stories like this.

Jesus Christ. Thank goodness he can't remember much - this sounds horrific! But if you will shelter under trees in a lightning storm ...
