Prisoners in Devon and Cornwall will be given 'customer feedback' forms in which they will be asked how satisfied they are with the food, cleanliness and reading material in their cells.
The 41-question surveys have come under criticism by many who argue that prisoners shouldn't have a say in such matters, as being in jail isn't a holiday.
Some of the questions will focus on whether the food and drink was “suitable” for their dietary needs and if books and magazines were brought to them “on request”. Other questions will ask suspects if they “felt safe” in their cell and whether it was clean, too hot or too cold and well lit.
Police chiefs say this research is valuable and is part of a pilot scheme to see if there are certain areas of service that can be improved.
