The London suburb of Brixton has launched its own currency after months of planning. The Brixton Pound will come in B£1, B£5, B£10 and B£20 denominations and can be used in dozens of local businesses in the area.

Introduced by volunteers with Lambeth Council's support, it's hoped that it will help to boost spending in the area and support local retailers. The notes cannot be used outside Brixton or be paid into a bank.

There were nominations to see which famous people of Brixton could have been featured on the currency but it looks like Harold Macmillan, David Bowie, The Clash, Sharon Osbourne & Eddy Grant didn't make the cut.
