Obama gives Brown the silent treatment?

Oh what on earth has Gordon Brown done to offend Barack Obama? If reports are to be believed, the special relationship has hit a rocky patch and a total of five calls made from Number 10 to the White House have been ignored!

The Guardian reckons Team Brown put in a number of requests for a private meeting between the two statesmen during the current round of talks at the UN, but the President is refusing to RSVP yes. I might have given up after phone call number two ...

The White House deny they've snubbed Gordy-no-mates, but it hasn't lessened the media's reaction to the event who - dare I say it - appear to be revelling in the PM's embarrassment. Various reports suggest the 'rift' between the US and the UK is down to the recent Scottish decision to release convicted Lockerbie bomber Abdelbaset al-Megrahi. Thanks for nothing Scotland.

Is this the end of a beautiful friendship? Is the UK destined to become just another insignificant little country, like say Luxembourg? Or will they kiss and make up?
