This is the moment a mother recklessly pushes a pram over a railway crossing in front of a moving train.
The impatient mother ignored a red warning light at the level crossing, and began to cross the uneven tracks, while other pedestrians waited patiently for the train to pass.
As she crossed, the tracksuit-clad woman realised the Sprinter was accelerating towards her and broke into a run to reach the other side.
The incident, which left observers stunned and horrified, was captured on CCTV at Wareham station in Dorset.
It has now been realised by Network Rail as part of a new safety campaign, Would It Kill You To Wait?
This year 12 people have died at crossings, with five of these in September alone. Another 189 incidents have been classified as 'narrowly avoiding' a collision.
The unidentified woman had been crossing at a spot known for near misses. Councillor David Budd, who supporting a campaign to install barriers at the crossing, said there had been 10 'near misses' at the crossing in the past year.
'This woman is doing exactly what many people do at this crossing - thinking they can get away with rushing across without looking,' he said.
'It's reckless whether she was pushing a pram or not, but all sorts of people do it to save time.
'They don't seem to realise that trains are not going to stop for them like a car might.'
Other footage released by Network Rail shows a pair of OAPs sauntering across the same junction, a van just inches from a collision after it reverses quickly out of the way of a train, and a car with a heavily crumpled bonnet after a collision with a Sprinter.
Iain Coucher, Network Rail chief executive, said: 'The rules around level crossings are clear and simple.
'When the lights flash or the barriers are down, don't cross, a train is approaching.
'Signs asking users to stop, look and listen or reminding you to contact the signaller before crossing are clear and must be followed.
'We understand that people have busy lives and waiting can be frustrating.
'Our campaign asks "would it kill you to wait?" because sadly we know that not waiting can result in tragedy and there's no excuse for that.'
Among the worst excuses offered to National Rail by irresponsible motorists and pedestrians are people thinking the train would slow down to let them through, thinking the train driver was giving way when he sounded the horn and the 'sat-nav told me to turn left so I just kept going'.
Excuse me for this rant in advance HOW BLOODY STUPID ARE THESE PEOPLE the mother (using the term loosly) pushing her baby across the tracks infront of an oncoming train looks like Vicki Pollard & quite possibly the same or less intelligence as her, but the excuses given for this behaviour are even more stupid the red lights translate to STOP so do it.
Local authorities & National rail spend millions on safety for these people who just throw it back in there faces, if they were to have an accident my guess is if they survived a compensation claim would be coming from them, as people who are that stupid refuse to take responsibilty for there own actions & blame anyone but themselves, they need to grow up.
I feel sympathy for the drivers of these trains who watch people being killed infront of them due to stupidity.
People these stupid fools need education then treated as the idiots that they are.
