Sikh and Destroy

Kabaddi is a centuries-old sport from South Asia. California's Punjabi-American players hit the field to play what has been compared to wrestling and rugby, without pads. Broken ankles, busted knees and scratches are all part of the journey to going pro and getting the family name out there.

    • i have in-laws who you used to live in yuba city and said that these ended in big fights (with cops involved!) from time to time? how common is that? i thought it was an interesting aspect of this pod that was missing.

    • hi Joe your inlaws are somewhat correct but that was years ago
there are two big kabaddi clubs in california that are arch rivals. everytime they play each other the matches are intense and the fans go wild. the players never fight but the fans can get pretty crazy. it''s kind of like a raiders vs 49ers atmosphere. every raid the fans are screaming there heads off and jumping up and down. you can kind of see a glimpse of the fans jumping and screaming in this video. imagine that with twice as much crowd and the two top teams facing each other. these teams no longer play each other because of this.
did you notice how close the fans are to the action. in close matches people get heated and often step onto the field, mostly to confront the referees and other people get disturbed by this and big arguments break out but most of the time the matches resume about 10 minutes later

    • Most players would give up when pinned down like tihs but this Superstar Raider Sandeep doesn't give up so easy and gets away for an exciting point.
