Here's the Solution to the Bowl Game / Tournament issue. We all like bowl games but what do they accomplish. I love watching the NCAA college football season but every year with very few exceptions I feel incredibly unsatisfied at the end of the year. Soo....
1. We have an 8 team tournament at the end of the year. Yes the top 8 are still chosen from some sort of polling system. But 8 is the perfect number. Why? because its perfect.
2. The first round of the playoffs are BOWL GAMES. So we keep the tradition alive and the school can still make ridiculous amounts of money on them.
3. We have a championship team that most people can acknowledge as just that, a champion.

No, it doesn't seem wrong. Even in a win a lot can be learned about a team. USC didn't look like the best team in the nation, the best team in the nation isn't supposed to be facing an onside kick at the end of the game when playing Washington. It's not like they fell multiple spots, they simply switched places with a team that has looked as good as any other in college football after LSU had a more convincing victory.
As for a playoff system, personally I like bowl games. It's what sets college football apart from pro. College hoops has March Madness, significantly different than the NBA playoffs. And wouldn't people just gripe about who deserves to be in the playoff? Wouldn't you still rank teams in the same way and the just draw the line at another arbitrary position (i.e., Top 8 instead of Top 2)?
Also, USC fans needs to stop whining. That's the gist of my argument. Haha.

usc did not clearly belong at the top. and they shared the title that year. now is this where i'm supposed to say "there'll never be a true champion until we have a playoff system"?
