Joe Torre is a 1st ballot Hall of Famer, there is no question about that. As a player and coach he succeeded on the highest levels. I can't blame the Boss (not Bruce but George) for getting rid of Torre but I can protest against the way in which this was handled, or mishandled. It has been common knowledge for a while now that Steinbrenner has taken issue with Joe Torre for a number of reasons. However, after the 1st two losses to Cleveland, Mr. Steinbrenner made a classless move by kicking Torre out by ultimatum. Either the Yanks win or Joe gets fired. No matter what happened this post season it is hard to see how Torre could’ve come back. I know that the Yankees expect a championship every year but for a guy that has meant so much to his players, the organization and the city of New York this was just not the correct way to deal with this. I'm old enough to have seen Mr. Steinbrenner pull some pretty cold moves but this was the worst yet. Joe Torre I salute you and wish you the best.

    • Well put sumangall. While strategically he was never the best coach he was a great leader of men both on and off the field.

    • I'm a die-hard, bleed-the-pinstripes yankees fan and I still can't understand why Steinbrenner treats his employees the way he does. By making that statement before game 3, he screwed over the team and Torre for the rest of the playoffs. It's unfair and poor management. I know it's just the boss being the boss, but he went too far. You'll never find a more respected and loved skipper than Joe Torre. He's like a second father to a lot of the younger kids on the team--and one of Derek Jeter's mentors. After all the great memories and success, this is how he goes out....sad.

    • For those of you who missed the game, the Cleveland Indians beat the Yankees 6-4, winning the series 3 games to 1.
