That, my friends, is why Manny Ramirez sucks. This from the same guy who stood at home plate and watched his homerun leave the park in game 4 while his team was DOWN 7-3.
Yes, I am a huge Yankees fan, but this is about being a sports fan. Do you ever want to hear your star player say "it's not the end of the world" to lose?

Manny is pissing me off. I'm a Dodgers fan, and now I have an idea of what they were talking about in Boston. Always plays out of position, is slow as hell when getting to the ball, and is 1 for his last 12 since coming back after his suspension.
And I finally got to see one of his temper tantrems the other day when he through an elbow guard at the ump - what a childish man. He should watch Pierre and take notes - Pierre is a classy, humble, and all around great player. Put Pierre back in! - 2 years ago

I am so glad we finally unloaded manny. He is always complaining about how the red sox don't deserve him. He's not a team player and I can't stand him. I love the red sox and am so glad we don't have to deal with his incessant whining.

I know this is an older thread, but had to put my two cents in.
Manny stays loose, that's how he does it. It's a game, and there is always next time.
He goes in early- works out, he watches not only the pitcher dujour but the bull pen as well on video. He works hard.
English is not his first language, and english is the hardest language to speak fluently. From my experience, people who don't speak it fluently tend to be blunt and to the point. Some see it as rudeness, but that is usually not the intent. They may not have a command of the subtle differences in words that mean basically the same thing.
He is this fantastic talent, who is trying to come out and play the game he loves and was born to play. There are times when he is like a big kid, playing a game of pick up with the nieghborhood kids. Yes he is paid enormous amounts of money to do what he loves- we should all be that lucky. If we want to talk about the salaries of athletes - and how they could be better put to use i.e. schools, teacher salaries etc. we can, but lets not blame Manny for it.
Someone mentioned a smile after a strike out- suggesting Manny knows he will be up again and is staying loose. i agree, I will take it one step futher though. I get the feeling when he does that he saw something- something that he is going to use to his advantage at his next at bat.

You know what? this is why I truly can't stand Yankees fans and most baseball fans for that matter. I have lived and breathed baseball for all of my thirty years, praying for someone like Manny to come along. Someone who is immensly talented but still realizes it's just a game... someone who can strike out and smile knowing he will have another at bat... someone who can cost his team a run in the field but give them three back with a blast in the 9th... he obviously didn't make it to this level by accident... You yankees fans are just as stiff and cardboard-like as your fossilized owner, boy George. NY players are all cookie cutter, robot-like drones that do exactly as the big "boss" wants them to... someone different comes along who isn't afraid to be himself, who looks different, who has FUN doing what he does... and you all sh*t a brick.... you have become more pathetic than I ever thought possible. Manny goes out and plays the game for his job... it isn't his whole life like the loser fans who have nothing but bad things to say because he stands out and isn't like EVERYONE else!!! yet you are too ignorant to realize that he has more post-season homeruns than anyone in MLB history, 2nd most grand slams ever, and one if the best eyes in baseball... how many bases loaded walks did he have in the ALCS???? three!!! who else in the pros would have that much patience and discipline at the plate? I counted at least 4 spectacular catches and two assists where he showed off the arm in this postseason.... but because he realizes life is a little bit bigger than baseball all you bumbs just can't stop talking about what an idiot he is.... you keep living your miserable life hating someone cause he makes $20 mil a year while laughing and joking and hitting moonshots 451 ft. off the "so-called" best pitchers in baseball (during the PLAYOFFS no less). I will continue to root for him and hope he keeps laughing and joking all the way to the hall of fame. I hope all you people don't live your lives the way you look at baseball. You have been hypnotized by the idiot "expert" reporters like that howdy doody looking moron Rosenthal who trashes one of the greatest players in baseball history. Keep it up man... life is too short not to have a blast... Manny just does it in more ways than others...

when he was with Cleveland you could almost write this stuff off as immaturity that he would grow out of eventually, but now....
I still remember in one divisional playoff game vs. the Yankees when someone hit a long drive to right... Manny trotted back after the ball, then lazily mimed an attempt to rob a home run, climbing the fence and reaching disinterestedly over the wall with his glove hand... Meanwhile, the ball bounced *in front of the wall* and the guy got a triple, runs scored, etc. etc.
*Randy Fucking Moss* has never dogged a play that bad in his life...

i think you need to keep it in perspective though and not sensationalize it. the sentiment is correct. it is just a game. being a boston fan i can say first hand that boston fans live and breathe red sox baseball. and sometimes fans forget that it's just a game. manny doesn't always get his point across in the way he or his fans would prefer but lets try not to distort the context of his words.

Being from Cleveland, I followed Manny's career when he played for the Indians in the mid to late 90s. He is a douchebag, but fortunately for any team he plays for, he is also pretty quiet. Teams should make him sign a contract to never talk with reporters because he always is saying stupid things.

that's unfortunate he said that...but I still love my Red Sox! I think that was a poor judgement call to make that statement...everyone makes mistakes. It doesn't mean he doesn't care about his team. Oh, and let's be honest with ourselves, the ONLY reason you chose this topic...is because you're a Yankees fan. Now there a team with some big egos...

you know I was thinking about this when I saw it on ESPN and I wondered about the reaction.
As a native of the BX I am also a die hard Yankees fan so I actually have a different question to pose for another string.
In terms of Manny. I think his attitude actually helps him as a player. Not sure the Boston fans appreciate it much, but he plays with no fear and no worries which is why he is able to produce in pressure pack situations. Unlike...hmmm A Rod who could only perform when his team is not in a playoff game.
Sure, I think Manny should keep to himself, but I agree with this assessment that "it's not that deep"....well to a certain extent. I guess it's easy for me to say that since my beloved Yanks got bounced.
Go Rockies!!!!!!

Perhaps it is... But no, you never ever want to hear your star player saying that. Even if that's just how Manny is.
