The Dominican Republic is the Dominican peoples and if we want to have cockfights that is our right and if USA players do it so what they did it in the DR and Juan Marichal is still a hero (he battled Racism in baseball before the 60's) to us just like Pedro Martinez..if this was a white or light skin Latino it would be a non-issue.

They are CHICKENS not people, not dogs(other cultures eat them though) not horses (French eat them though and get them from us after our race horses had outlived their usefullness) they are whats for dinner...should we put a needle and put it to sleep then eat it ..oh cant do that then we would be eating poison...ITS a non- issue...who cares.

Always trying to down minorities as barbaric when other people are doing the same or worse things in your own backyard.
Oh and don't forget what happens to race horses after their winning streaks are over....check out Bryant Gumbel's Real Sports and see how they are slaughtered immediately after the butcher buyers sell them to France for food.

and because America doesn't like it, we should definitely make horrible examples out of professional athletes for doing something legal in their own country, right?

This is a non-issue, non-story that really shouldn't have any significant importance. Michael Vick's situation is one that he broke many many laws, and did so with Man's Best Friend. Cockfighting while not legal in the US, isn't exactly frowned upon in a lot of cultures. Even further, they're not making Man's Best Friend fight, they're making McNuggets fight.

If we're okay with chicken slaughterhouses and industrial chicken farms in the US (and elsewhere) that keep chickens in inhumane conditions on a daily basis without even any room to move around... I find it amazingly hypocritical that we can come down on cockfighting as a brutal thing at the same time.

It's one thing to be watching...
But they were physically putting the chickens in the ring to duke it out...
