Here's an excerpt from the running blog by ESPN.com's Jayson Stark:
"12:06 p.m. ET
Rep. John Tierney had an experience many of us in the media have had while trying to interview Clemens: We ask one thing. He gives an answer that seems to be in response to some whole other question. And no matter how hard we try, he keeps answering the question he hears, not the question we asked.
Tierney noted three specific times Clemens told investigators he'd never talked to McNamee about HGH -- but then cited two occasions when he confronted McNamee about his injection of his wife with HGH.
Repeatedly, Tierney asked Clemens how he "reconciled" that inconsistency. Repeatedly, Clemens gave answers that indicated that "prior" to those conversations, he'd never had a "specific" discussion with McNamee about HGH.
You wanted to scream out, "Roger, that's not what he's asking." But eventually, Tierney just gave up and moved on.
Been there. Done that. "

Baseball's having record attendance for almost all the teams, and the TV ratings are up. Fans by and large just don't care.
It seems that Joe/Jane American don't care how they get their entertainment. Hell, why is Flavor of Love so damned popular?

How can we send a bill to congress for a refund for wasting our hard-earned tax dollars with this nonsense? Do we really care? I'm a huge baseball fan and I do not care about this crap. If MLB doesn't want to govern its sport, then let them suffer the consequences from the fans. This is the last thing the gub'ment needs to worry about.
Did anyone actually watch any of the hearings? What was really strange was the partisan breakdown in the questioning. The Democratic members asked tough questions and basically took dumbass Clemens to task over his lies and stupidity. The Republican members went out of their way to freaking fawn all over Clemens...profess their love for him...offer to wash his car in exchange for an autograph...and downright paint him as a victim. Amazing! Even with something as stupid as that hearing, the Republicans still find a way to eff it up.

Is it wrong to go after these "knuckleheads" for performance enhancing drugs, but go easy on them for getting performance enhancing surgery, like tommy john surgery.
A USA Today article in 2003 says:
"These players typically perform as well, if not better, after the operation and have stronger arms, with radar gun readings to match.
"I hit my top speed (in pitch velocity) after the surgery," says Wood, the Cubs' 26-year-old All-Star. "I'm throwing harder, consistently."

took control of the Legislative Branch of the Government, they seemed to have done the impossible. They have even lower Approval rating than President George W. Bush by over 10%. I think after these hearings they are going to pass another non-binding resolution. LEAVE ROGER CLEMENS ALONE! NOW!!!

Truth be told the panel and Waxman had wanted to cancel the Roger and McNa"mee" part of these hearings, but Roger insisted on having his day in Faux court. It was a very bad, bad day for him. He looked like a fool. He comes off as a dumb bully that believes he is so admired by the mortals around him that they will believe any lie he sets forth upon.
His had more holes and "misremembers" in his testimony than Oli North. Then again I do believe that his wife of 20 years was getting a shot in her butt, during secret training periods with Brian, without Roger even knowing what HGH was, although he did know what it was, but only b/c of a TV show that he and Andy had a conversation about, but Andy misremembers the conversation, when actually it was just a good infomercial. My mind often fuses all of those things into one, then forgets half of it in very strange nonsequenstial ways.
Yes the policies teaching children that a tie is better than a winner or loser is dumb, and it is just as bad that we are teaching our children that doing steroids (athletes & entertainers), lying to judges, government officials and your peers (athletes and politicians - looking at you Mr. Clinton) and doing anything you can to get ahead in the game, make more money and screw over the little people (99% of american coorporations and 70% of it's citizens) is much worse.
Okay rant over.

Check out the update on CNN:
Roger Clemens said Wednesday he received only vitamin shots from Brian McNamee, but the ex-trainer insisted before a House panel that every injection contained steroids or other performance enhancers.

Is this all a waste of time and all our hard-earned taxes? Yes.
@ Jan - I have to respectfully disagree with your opinion about sports. If anything, kids today are growing up much *softer* than previous generations b/c there's been a reduced focus on winning & losing and competing. Competition is good. Kids learn about winning & losing from sports. This prevalent notion being taught to kids today that "there are no losers" is not just ridiculous but downright harmful. As a youngster, you *need* to learn how to lose in order to learn how to lose with dignity...how to properly assess those losses in order to keep improving...how to build not just your own self-esteem after a loss, but also those around you. And so on and so on.

i find this story incredibly disappointing. i'm amazed at the amount of media coverage and congressional action this issue has attracted while things like the largest lobbying day on global warming in history received little coverage at all. similarly, the congressional hearing with a select committee on
energy independence & global warming hardly received the same air time as these baseball players.
to answer JanforGore...YES! congress has much better things to do than interrogate baseball players, but this is what they choose to spend their time on. it's up to us to make sure we vote for representatives that have their priorities straight. - 4 years ago

this excerpt from Clemens' testimony makes it clear that as great of a pitcher as he is, he missed his true calling as a member of the Gonzales Justice Department:
"Once again, Mr. Congressman, I think he misremembers the conversation that we had. Andy and I's relationship was close enough to know that if I would have known that he had done HGH, which I now know, if he was knowingly knowing that I had taken HGH, we would have talked about the subject. He'd have come to me to ask me about the effects of it."
...and doesn't congress have anything better to do than interrogating baseball players about steroids??

I think they need to cut all their salaries in general ( that would cut the deficit in half more than likely) and not make sports in general so competitive that players feel that to not be on their best game everyday is somehow substandard. This country's society in general places so much emphasis on winning at ANY cost even down to local kids sports, that it is no wonder teens in high school sports feel they need to take it to "be the best." Surely those that use them to cheat should be punished, but we must also remember that we all precipitated the environment it has taken place in by supporting it and paying for it with ticket prices and support.

Can someone tell me what will come of these hearings in Congress? Are they going to do something? Arrest or somehow punish the guys who use/d drugs? I'm sort of lost as to what the point of all of this. A lot of guys used steroids, some were surprises, sure, but...now what?
