Did Billy Beane and the Athletics throw in the towel too early?

We’ve had 20 days to digest the beginning of the sell-off in Oakland, and in that time the A’s have gone from seven games over .500 and six games out of first, second in the A.L. West, to two games over .500, 11 games back and in third....

    • Both the Blanton and Harden trades made complete sense at the time.

      Blanton was like 5-12, so he didn't quite contribute that much to the 2nd place standing before his trade.

      A bump in the road was bound to happen for a team centered on rookies and injured players.

      They should still finish in second, but since it was more than likely the Angels were going to pull a move like trading for Texiera, catching them would have been a huge uphill climb.
